Red face Was the Tune-Up worth it?

I know this has been covered already, but I wanted a fresher perspective from people. Maybe people who had it done a while back and noticed a significant increase in performance?

Personally, I don't really have any issues with my unit as far as I can tell. But then again, I wouldn't know if it's really performing up to par. I had my 9500ix since the day it was released and I have the extended warranty and database subscription with it.

The new mount included with it would be nice, but somewhat useless in my situation as I like the unit high (next to my RVM) for stealth. I know that the more pronounced position with this mount would most likely make the visor even less operable than it already is (can only open it top about 70 degrees).

So, what do you guys think? Worth the dough or not really?

Well, tune ups are primarily done on older units (regardless of which RD it is) since with time the bands become out of tune. Also, if you leave it in the sun a lot or if you leave it heated for a long time that can also cause bands to go out of tune. I'm not sure if you really need it, but if you're worried about losing the "crispness" then go for it.

The waveguides on the detectors are tuned with screws and held tuned using some epoxy, but with time, and heat, these tend to get soft and shift around. Even a 1mm shift is enough to throw off the waveguide by several hundred hertz, more than enough to cause problems.

I would say the tune-up is well worth it, although, if you have a signal generator and a good enough spectrum analyzer, I don't see why you couldn't do it yourself
