Hi, I'v just purchased a Whistler xtr-310 for $50 at wallyworld, and from what I'v been reading, it's an ok unit for the price. Since I'v had it, I really havent came into contact with any Leos, but it doesnt seem to pick up X band very well (even in highway mode), such as security doors, which isnt a huge deal to me, but I'm wondering, that if i find it also doesnt pick up other bands well, would it be worth it to get an older escort 8500 for aroun $100?
Does the 8500 pick up all the bands used today (besides POP which it doesnt)?
Also, i'v read about the circuitry gettting old on many of the 8500's and having to be reapaired by Escort. Others have said that if you come into problems with them, you can often just clean the board inside, and blow out the horn.
Anyway, i'm just wondering what others think about the older 8500. Are they still worth buying (for around $100)?
I ask because there's a pawn shop which has one for that price, OR would it be wise to just keep my current Whistler for $50.
Also, I'm not sure what the problem with the whistler is, but it does pick up x band when i near a bank near my home, but if i drive into the parking lot of wallyworld, i can drive up to the door and he thing never goes off.
My brother has a V1 and it picks up walmart security door, even the the road, but i think the whistler should at least go off when i get very close (strange).
Many people compare the sensibility of the 8500 to the V1, but I'd like to know if that old of an excort would still be a good purchase.
thanks for any insight.
