    Default 9500ix First Laser Encounter

Did another 240 mile trip to and from Las Vegas, NM today. I always get at LEAST 4 good encounters/saves on this trip. NMSP enforces the hell out of those highways and they are the poster children for PSL's set too low. I'm talking flat as hell for miles, wide, hardly any traffic, and PSL is only 65 in 90% of the areas (wtf right?).

Anyways heading back on I-40 eastbound I get a K band alert. About 2 miles ahead is an overpass, PSL is 75 (I-40 is the only part of my trip where it isn't 65) and it's the "safety corridor" (speeding fines doubled). Before I even get close I can see the white cruiser parked on top of the overpass. As I come closer my 9500ix screams LASER for the first time and I pass under the LEO shooting above me to find 3 cruisers parked on the right side of the road ready to pounce. Lucky for me one of them kept his K band radar C/O, and I know to slow at overpasses until I get jammers installed.

I can't believe how people can be hit by these overpass traps. The car and/or LEO shooting up top is so visible from outside the laser's range it's hard to see how anyone paying attention to driving could get caught. Another thing, with my 9500ix mounted high center windshield and being in a truck, how the hell did I even get an alert? Did this guy just paint the front of my hood? Anyways, somehow the laser hit felt a bit more personal than a radar hit does. Maybe it was because it was my first one, or maybe it was because I could actually make eye contact with the LEO shooting me as I passed under. In any case, I didn't like it, and am even more anxious now to get my jammers.

Haha, you're not the only one. I too feel like its more personal when you get hit with laser. The first time always scares the crap out of you because the laser alert is quite high pitched.

My first time with laser made up my mind to get a jammer.

I was trying to decide if the LEO running C/O K band was either an idiot or a nice guy trying to do us a favor.

Lol, lets be nice and call him a nice guy. Wish they were all that 'nice'.

I got popped with laser the other day under 500 ft. Saw the cop and looked him right in the face as i went by too. Luckily id already slowed down because he had a buddy up the road who was hiding in a car dealership lot (such a dirty tactic) shooting Ka band.

My 9500ix didnt alert to the laser though , its mounted high and i guess it was too close. I really wanted to hear it.

I use to think that when people said "if your radar detector is mounted high, when hit with laser you never know" and I always thought it was bogus because everytime I've been hit with laser no matter where my radar detector was mounted on my windshield it always picked up the wash. Meaning it detected the laser but of course by then the LEO has your speed, that is true.

But after all these years of driving and encounters of speed traps on the road, I've come to realize from first hand experience that it all depends on the LEO's experience and the gun the LEO is shooting. Now that I have a laser jammer installed, I can clearly state that there has been times when I've been shot with laser and my radar detector never goes off meaning it never picked up the wash of the laser. So it depends on the LEO's experience with his laser gun. New Jersey State Police must be good, because NJSP is the only ones who has shot me with laser and my radar never picked up the wash. But majority of the time, anytime when hit with laser my radar which is mounted high always picks up the wash and both my jammer and radar detector screams.

Yea, i was also under 500ft, so the beam would've been super small. The LEO was also using the window sill to steady his hand so if he couldnt hit my bumper instead of my windshield itd have been sad...
