My friend selling me a passport 8500 for 150, and he says its a 8500 and i keep askin him if its a x50 and he like i think its just 8500, im wondering if there is just a 8500 and is it crapier then the x50 if there is one, he says his is updated and stuff

and on this site <Competitor's link removed....cVr> the rader just says passport 8500 without the x50 but it still claims to be a 8500 x50 so im a bit confused

Welcome to the forum! Ya there is a 8500 some say it has
better Ka range then the X-50! But the X-50 is the newest
version! Go here for more info about them!

I'd buy it if I was you! $150 is a great deal! I'm not sure if
you can upgrade it to a X-50, but I would definitely but it!

The thing about POP is that it falses constantly on Cobra radar detectors and other weak signals, anyway. Odds are it would drive you nuts and you would eventually turn it off. The falsing isn't too bad on the V1 but there are other related issues that may or may not be resolved. Honestly, if the 8500 is in good working order it might not be a bad way to go. The alternative is to hold off for a little while since quite a bit is going on now in terms of new detectors on the horizon.

I would definitely buy the 8500 for 150. i just did a test across the country and there wasn't a huge difference between the two. There are also a few other tests that have been done between the 2 on this forum and have the same results. Even if you did buy it and decided later to go with another detecor you could get back what you put into it or even more. I've seen some original 8500's selling for around 200 in great condition. Either way you decide to go you can't go wrong.

As far as i know pop isn't legal to be used to detect speed for a ticket. I think they have to use the regular detection after pop to be able to legaly give you a ticket. And someone correct me if i'm wrong but pop is worse than laser in that by the time you're hit you don't really have a chance to slow down in time.
