Default First Impressions of My 8500 X50

Well I got it in the mail yesterday finally, and my visor clip that I purchased off of ebay came as well. I don't know where there are everyday speed traps and LEOs hanging out so I tested my used unit on a couple local speed signs. I could get .6 miles out of the K-Band Signal coming from speed sign. I left X on for the city and highway since in Michigan I hear we have people who still have X radar guns. When I was driving home from my testing, I caught a Grosse Pointe LEO, he had Ka and it looked like he just left his radar on (stationary unit inside his crown vic.). Later on that night I caught another Grosse Pointe LEO and he did the same thing, Ka and just left it on. I think the Ramp-up for my unit is pretty good, The speed sign testing went from 1 bar all the way to 6-7 bars. Although I just used the visor clip and put the unit up on my sun visor, I plan to hard-wire it and attach the visor clip to my headliner. I have a couple questions though. During my speed testing, I changed the display to "Spec" which gave me the actual frequency. On the speed sign, it ranged anywhere from 24.120 to 24.181. What does this mean, why did it have a range? I also picked up a 10.5 X from a local building on my way home. I really like how easy it is to adjust the volume/dimmer/city/highway modes, I think Escort did an excellent job with these units. I'm doing a 200 mile road trip today from Detroit to Lansing, so we'll see how that turns out

One last thing, where do I get those Bar things for my sig? I want to find the Escort 8500 X50 Blue Display one.

Does anyone know what POP does if I turn it on or off?

    Here's an 8500 X50 blue userbar: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...al/Escort1.png

Leave POP off as only a few radar units have it and those that have it don't use it. It just causes more falses from crappy detectors in other cars (aka Cobras).

Radar measures speed by reading the Doppler shift (frequency change) of the radar reflected from objects. The frequency difference is due to differences in speed.

The frequency change due to doppler shift is measured in kilohertz at the most. A millionth of a percent. Spec mode on Escorts isn't precise by any means. Sometimes it will read wrong especially when the signal is weak, then it will "figure out" the frequency as it gets stronger.

Also, if there is more than one signal present, spec mode will alternate between the frequencies.
