Default Detector Tools v1.7 is now available.

Escort Detector Tools v1.7 is now available.

    https://www.escortradar.com/register/iregister.asp

    Change Log:

No need to enter Key Code or other information. Properly connect your Escort GPS product to the PC running the new Detector Tools Program and the serial number validation will be used to confirm and protect your registration.
The new Merge function verifies if you have the latest database. If a newer database is available, Detector Tools will automatically download and install the latest database.
The Software function will check for newer software (firmware) and will ask you if you want to install the latest version.

In addition you will be informed if your current subscription needs to be Activated or has expired and will provide links to Activate the subscription and/or purchase a subscription renewal.

You also no longer download the Location Database

Does this mean that if we own more than one 9500, that we now have to have a database subscription for each one of them?

Exactly, I am thinking about getting my wife's 9500i upgraded to a IX. But it sounds like using this method you would have to buy two DB subscriptions. I am going to stick with the old version the only reason you need the new version is if you have the SC-55.

But the data base download is gone. Doesn't matter if you update Detector Tools.

So what happens to the weekly RLC updates?
"Does this mean that if we own more than one 9500, that we now have to have a database subscription for each one of them?"
    My thought exactly!

You were always supposed to have a Defender subscription per unit.

The Defender updates will continue weekly and you will still receive the weekly update notification emails.

This new version of Detector Tools also does not require you having administrator privileges when updating the Passport 9500ci (it no longer writes a file to your PC when updating).

    Yes.

It also means that, unless you have a laptop and are within range of a WiFi access point, you can no longer update your 9500ci.

Maybe Escort should start including lists of free public WiFi hotspots (with signals that reach out to the parking lot) in the box with their custom-installed RDs.

Heh. I updated mine yesterday with:
MacBook Pro, running VirtualBox with WinXP inside to run Detector Tools
Internet supplied by free WiFi Tethering on my hacked/rooted Motorola Droid.

Is there a way to find out what the firmware updates are when you apply those? I have a 9500i that I hadn't performed a firmware update in about two years, and just did it tonight.

I downloaded the 1.7 today. It doesn't overwrite the previous version - says to uninstall the previous, then install the 1.7
It all worked fine, so when I launched it to let it update, I stepped away for a moment (needed a drink), and when I returned, our youngest small dog was already chewing the cord real good - Grrrrrrr
Good thing I barked and growled back before she got to far, and good thing she didn't run off with it like her usual way thinking I'm playing.
Let it do the firmware & database update.

After the RD, I also updated a few GPS units. I'm always hoping updates work without problems.

Anyway all worked without a hitch here - 9500ix
