    Default Vintage Escort Detection

    So I'm curious how the detectors of yesteryear under the tutelage of Mike V would fare against the detectors of today. Like the Passport 1000, with its X and K+laser detection only. Thing looks like a tank.

    What model was the last model designed by Mike V of the Escort/Passport line?

    Mike V and others have demonstrated that the original CMI Passport and DSP were perhaps the best X/K detectors of all time. My experience has been similar, although the BEL 900 detectors behave as well as a Passport (and a V1) in my tests for X-Band. The X-50 I sampled was measurably less sensitive to X-Band, both in response time and initial alarm. Escort has admitted that the X-50 has de-emphasized X-Band performance, which is not a good thing for NJ--the land of K-55s.

    Also, the Passport 1000 was only a laser detector, it didn't detect radar at all. And as far as that one being built like a tank, I don't really see that because it had a plastic case unlike the radar detectors of that time.




    Mike V left the company before the Passports were available. But, I am sure they contained a lot of Mike's development work and ideas.

    If only Escort would add Ka superwide and laser to the DSP. Alas, they'd have an arrow-free V1.
