I've been using this awesome machine for a few weeks now (upgraded from 8500X50) and I gotta say I love it. But I have a few questions.
First: Mounting options. I am using power from my rear view mirror, I tapped into the power and hard wired it directly to the RD. Now, I sort of like mounting it right above the rear view mirror. Really stealthy, almost invisible from outside the car (I drive thru Virginia, West Virginia a lot).
I remember reading somewhere where you should try to keep it dead center of the wind shield, not too close to the wipers, not too close to the rear view, right in the middle.
So, is it OK to mount it above the rear view? It's got a clear shot of the sky (GPS signal) and a clear shot (no tint) of the road. Or should I leave it in the center?
Second is options: When playing around in detector tools, I noticed POP and a few other bands that I never heard of were all turned off, so I turned them on. I've never heard of these bands and the default was OFF. I turned them all on.
Do I leave them off? Are they even used? Do they harm the sensitivity / distance of my other bands?
Do they even use any of those other bands like POP and I don't remember the other 4?
Third is X band. I cruise around with Auto Xband OFF. Because "I think" that nobody uses X band any more, it's sort of like 8 trak tapes. Do any states still use X band and should I leave it on?
The reason I turned it off is because of all the false alarms. Then I thought, this thing has a learning feature and soon enough it'll pick up / learn all the false areas.
I live in North Carolina do a TON of driving from VA, WV, DC, NC, SC, GA, FL, TN. And it's safe to say Sammy Hagar wrote "I can't drive 65" because of ME.
Fourth is power supply: I found this power supply in a SRT8 forum that I belong to. It's a wire that fits into the radar (telephone jack style) with two wires that have metal ...... forks sticking out of them. You're supposed to shove them into the rear view mirror's power supply and tap into the other wires. Installation is less then 15 seconds and requires no cutting, soldering, welding, etc. It's just install two wires into the back of the rear view mirror and run the other end of the wire into the radar. Works perfectly.
Should I keep this set up? Am I better off getting a hard wire kid and running the wire to the dash?
Thanks for your help.
