    Default 8500x50 Major Problems

Since the past week or so, I've been coming across more and more problems with my 8500x50.

Upon start-up, sometimes the detector will freeze, then Self Cal will appear on the screen. Also, randomly as I am driving, Self Cal will appear on the LED Screen.

In addition, sometimes the detector will not even detect K band MPH signs placed on the side of the road or highway. I have to always unplug the cord, and plug it back in and it will finally recognize the signal.\

Upcoming to the past couple weeks, I have been getting full K band alerts on the highway. I believe they are TSRs, traffic monitoring signals. Is this true? Anyway to defeat it?

Lastly, sometimes under acceleration LASER will suddenly appear, when I am just starting to drive or any other random moments when I know for a fact that I'm not getting hit. I'm just going to turn this off though, this is the least of my worries.

Like I said, I'll get Self Cal at least 4-5 times during a 30 minutes drive, and It's getting really annoying. Anything to fix it? I assume I can send it into Escort for a tune-up, anyone know what the cost is of it?

EDIT: Just going out for pizza, plugging the Escort in, the radar can't even start-up correctly and Self Cal appears along with Service Required. My radar is no longer functional. Please Help

    Thanks,

    Kyle

You're going to need to send it in to Escort, where they can fix it up good as new.

It's isn't what I wanted to hear. I usually leave my RD mounted. I do have 50% on the windshield, thinking that it would help and I just got lazy of removing it.

It looks like I may be buying a new detector...

The Self Cal is an indication that the unit recognizes that it is not functioning properly. After it recalibrates it may work fine for awhile, or it may not. The fact that it continues to attempt to recalibrate means that it needs servicing. Call Escort and set up a return for servicing. Many here (me included) have had the service and have been pleased with the results. For the 70 bucks or so that they will charge you, you'll get a unit that works better than ever and a new windshield mount and power cord. IMHO- money well spent.
