    Default Escort 7500

Today I found and old Escort 7500 in the closet complete with box and accessories. I remember buying it about 10 years ago, but put it away when I upgraded to the 4500 then 4600 and so on. I don't remember much about how well it worked. It still fires up and seems to pick up the normal falses on a short drive down the road, but haven't come across any radar. Anyone have any experience with this model as far as performance? Is it worth keeping as a backup?

Personally I'd trade it in on a Redline or 9500ix.

I am pretty certain the 7500 was a newer unit than the 4600's

    A little comparison from 2000:

    SML's test in 2000

    V1
    X band 3.0 miles
    K band 2.6 miles
    Ka band 4.0 miles

    Passport 7500
    X band 1.9 miles
    K band 1.4 miles
    Ka band 1.8 miles

The 4500 and 4600 were released before the 7500. Detection is probably similar between the 4600 and 7500 but the 7500 has a much nicer display, which we still use on our detectors, and it offered many more features.

The 7500 uses a manually tuned antenna that has probably drifted out of tune by now. I recommend updating to a newer detector as we no longer support the 7500.

For reference, the 8500 offers a huge jump in detection performance over the 7500 and earlier Escort radar detectors.

Your, right, my mistake. Those 2 were prior units and the 7500 was an upgrade to them.
After the 7500, I went with various BEL units, one of which, the V955, I still use on occasion today.

It's almost 3 years old and not one "service requied " yet.

Yeah, that V955 is likely in the S7 antenna platform, and will likely perform better than today's M4 units...

Actually, it's an M4, but it still performs well. I recently got a factory 8500 refurb, with an S7, seems to work great. I just thought I'd play around with the old 7500 just to see how it compares. Anyone know how to hand tune it? LOL

Actually yes, I used to do it

Unfortunately we no longer have the software and equipment set up to perform it.

If it's the 7500 with orange printing on the case then it has a mean laser detection circuit.

I actually just got a chance to do a little driving with the old 7500. One thing I noticed is there seems to be a continuous timed loop of Ka low
level falses. It even happened while parked in my driveway. I've found reviews from other users, dated years ago, that they have experienced the same thing. Was this a common problem with the 7500?
