Default Redline detectors cheap on ebay

Just for kicks I did a search on "Redline Radar" at ebay and came up with a page full of "New" Escort Redline Radar detectors

Noone who purchases any of these off ebay will have any warranty and yet the "seller" is clearly offering a warranty yet if and when they need a warranty, i can pretty much assure them they will be SOL.

So why isn't Escort doing more to stop this?

Most of these are brand new units that have never been registered so Escort would easily be able to find out what "authorized" dealer unleashed them onto ebay.

Is he going to fix it himself? What a bunch of BS. Escort should find out where they came from so someone who doesn't know better spends their hard earned money and gets stuck if the unit needs service.

    Well,
in many cases, Escort will accept the unit for repair....but not under warranty as I understand it.
So, any of these people who need service in the warranty period would have to pay a $60 service fee.

I don't think these people think they are doing anything "wrong" purchasing off ebay. They just aren't aware of the consequences.

Bel[scort] has been dumping product on the secondary market for years. Product by the pallet-loads.
The issue is not renegade distributors but the business practices of the manufacturer.

    This technique moves product
    • at 'on Sale' prices without the manufacturers' site dropping prices
    • without 'officially' screwing their brick-and-mortar(and e-tail] retail business 'partners'
    • that may not meet quality standards
    • without a warranty

    Annoying? yes
    Unethical? maybe
    Illegal? no

    Perhaps;
the warranty is actually purchased, with the $500 retail price.
Buy off of e-bay, and you choose 'no warranty' for a cheaper price.

    Which begs the question . . .
"If I just paid $500(plus shipping) for The BEST detector on the market from the best detector manufacturer, why should I need a 'Limited One-Year Warranty' ?"

I[we] shouldn't. If it dies in a year, it's clearly garbage; if it doesn't, what is the actual value of the warranty?
    Not much.

I assure you that we are not dumping product on eBay or any other auction site. We spend a lot protecting our brand name but we cannot be everywhere at once. Many of the listings are for a single RedLine. I also noticed that some resellers are already on our unauthorized list. Sellers can also change their eBay name, the only way to identify this is by viewing their "ID history" which isn't very intuitive (feedback screen then "view other options" link).

About auctions sites. Auction sites are merely a way of performing a transaction, a means to buy and sell items. It's no different than a flea market or a yard sale. A POP from a flea market will not hold up with any manufacturer as the original point of purchase. We have a link on our homepage about unauthorized resellers and the risks involved.
