Default POP mode on RX65/X50 affect KA sensitivity?

    Hi all,

Does enabling POP mode actually affect the sensitivity to regular KA radar (non-POP KA radar) or does it make absolutely no difference?

The reason I'm asking is that there is photo radar and other weak KA radar where I am, but no POP radar yet, so I was wondering if I should enable POP mode anyway if it will make it a bit more sensitive.

    Any experts here know?

I'd rather it false a bit more and know the detector is at it's most sensitive detection. I was making a guess that since POP mode is suppose to need super fast reaction speed, it puts the detector into an overall "overdrive" mode that makes the whole detector operate/detect faster.... or am i completely wrong?

I believe it makes KA more sensitive.

    Default Depends

    Depends on where you live.
Unless you are in NY, Nevada, or FL I would look at keeping POP off for now

    Hehe thanks

The way Escort/Bel describe it, enabling POP mode only adds like an extra "band" to the detection, rather than making the existing regular K and KA bands more sensitive (yep, i know that POP actually works within K and KA band...)

Since photo radar and weak KA radar guns work at low power levels... i'd rather the detector falses a bit more but detects those radars an extra 1 or 2 seconds! But... if enabling POP mode ONLY detects POP without making the regular K and KA band more sensitive, I'd rather not.

Hope you know what I mean from the above, it is kinda hard to explain

Im not expert and im just making an assumption here, but I'd assume that It does not effect the sensitivity per-se... however it may effect the interpretation.

In non-pop mode, the detector may not be optimized to detect very short ka bursts. It either ignores them (as falses) or it misses them on its scans.

In pop mode, these shorter KA burts are either not missed or not ignored... hence the higher odds of falsing. I'm not sure there is any effect on the ability of the detector to sense a "weak" signal... only a "short" one.

Mmm, if thats the case, and it doesn't actually increase the "sensitivity" but only makes it catch "short" bursts then there would be no advantage to enabling it if there is really no POP being used in the area.

Darn... I was hoping there was a way to get more photo radar detection by enabling POP

It 'may' help on photo radar depending upon the setup location and how it or if it reflects from a solid "reflective" object (other than trees, rocks, etc..).

POP works on 67 something or other.. 67ms or something... maybe it only responds if the radar burst is exactly 67ms? I'm not sure but the reflection might have to be exactly the same quickness of the POP burst ops:

Argh this is a killer topic... this would affect not just photo radar but everyone, since if POP makes the detector more sensitive, then testing with it on/off would make a big difference

I have heard from another forum that enabling POP mode will enable some special circuits in the RX65/X50 that enables it to detect faster... presumably this will affect over KA performance as well? Anyone?
