Default Would removing the red plastic in the Redline make it more sensitive?

I use the Redline in a motorcycle tank bag so it is protected and out of sight. I just use the audio portion through the helmet speakers and it works well for that.

I was wondering if removing the red plastic panal at the front would make it more sensitive to radar? I know the laser side is basically dead in the bag unless I can run a fiber optic cable down to the unit somehow.

My thinking is that removing the red plastic would cancel out the effect of the tank bag material in radar reception and make it more sensitive?

    Thoughts?

The plastic has no or a negligible effect on radar transmission. What material is the tank bag made out of? If it's not metallic, it shouldn't effect radar performance either.

Makes no difference, except NOT having the plastic there will allow dirt and other crap into the antenna.

Taking it off will decrease your real world performance, void the warrantee, and probably damage the unit over time.

The 2 lobes on the plastic antenna cover are there for a reason.

The plastic cover is actually a functional lense for the antenna on the RedLine. As CJR238 indicated, removing the lense will reduce performance. The double bubble is for the two horns inside..........each corrects for phase errors (due to the short horns) which improves efficiency.
