Default Autoscan vs Highway or City.

I typically drive with Autoscan but i'm not sure how much performance or range if any that i'm giving up. Has there ever been a GOL test or other test done to show the range or performance difference between Autoscan versus Highway or City mode?

I would love to see the results of a radar gun against a RD set to Auto then City then Highway to see if there is indeed a difference in range.

There really isn't any difference between high & auto, I have passed LEO's running radar when the x50 was in auto I then made another pass in highway mode and it alerted at exactly the same time (k) band! As far as city mode well I never run it so I really don't know.

There have not been any tests with the different settings from GOL.
Other members have posted thier experiences with the different settings.

Some say do not use autoscan due to shorter ranges expierenced I believe in the KA band area but do not remember for sure.
Some say they have had no problems using autoscan.
On my bel 895 I find in the city the autoscan works better than the city modes on falsing.
Out on the highway I have used both autoscan and highway mode and have not noticed any difference in range when targeted by k band or ka band.
As far as laser I do not think autoscan affects the performance.

If it warms up here in Indy I can do some testing on the different ranges with my k band and x band radar.

For Escort, Autosensitivity only effects X band.

For Bel, AutoScan effects X band and maybe K (little if anything at all).

This is according to the gospel of Chad (the best tech there).

The consensus is that it is nominal, might be just a few seconds reaction time, now depending upon speed, highway or in the city, a few seconds can mean a difference of several feet to hundreds of feet, so hence, if you driving on the highway less need for filtering and more need for every second counts. If in the city at a slower rate of speed, you do not need to know where every false alert is, so do yourself a favor and put the filtering to good use. User preference, some like to run highway only.

My older bel which the manual states autoscan filters X and K only. City mode filter X, City All mode filters X K and Ka -never had a false on Ka even in highway mode next to a cobra, so filtering for Ka is pointless to me. New Bel's are programed like escort, City modes only filter X, Autoscan modes the manuals are not specific so know one knows for sure. All that anyone knows is that Highway mode is your best sensitive/range mode to use for maximum results. Thats why with time restrictions, only test done are that in Highway mode. Would be interesting to see the up comming Ka wide performance and Ka narrow performance, anyone know if the new STi has Ka narrow option, I would think so?

Good Quesiton, always wonder what i was missing by using one or the other. Till now, ive kept it on Auto, and it has worked like a charm. Ive considered turning off X, but still not sure if i could be losing something by disabling that.

Dilip and I already tested this on Ka 34.3 photo radar... Autoscan and Highway made NO difference on Ka.

Can we see a Highway versus City mode test then? Just for the fun of it i would like to see one test show me the actual range lost by setting it to City mode.

I compared Autoscan to Highway mode on my 985 yesterday. I experienced a 75% reduction in warning range on K band when I used Autoscan. I would definitely not recommend using Autoscan on the 985!

From what I read here, autosensitivity on the X50 works differently than Autoscan on the BEL. I don't know how the RX-65 and STi differ in their Autoscan performance from the 985, but it's terrible on the 985.

WOW thats terrible. How did you test this out, did you use a speed sign? I have a 985, and I still get a mile or slightly better with autoscan. Highway mode does improve performance but nothing too significant.

You are correct autoscan (beltronics) and autosensitivity (escort) are two different things, although it seems they have more in common recently rx65 vs X50. But as far as older Bels and orgininal 8500, like you said.
