    Default Escort - Passport 8500 X50

    Hi..

New here.. so be easy.. Tried doing a search, but no results that answered this specific quesiton.

As said in the subject, i have the 8500 X50 and for the last week ive been trying to toggle POP on, yet when i try changin it to on it just toggles to the next option. This doesnt happen when I trying changin ON or OFF on any other options.. just POP.

I know this questions isnt very descriptive, so just assume i do know how to change the options Any input, would be greatly appreciated.

I think the manual said that to toggle Bands and Pop on and off you need to hit the mute button. This is a departure from the regular way everything else works on it.

http://www.escortradar.com/8500x50manual.pdf Check page 13 towards the bottom in the section where they show all the bands you can turn on and off it says: "Turn bands ON or OFF by pressing the mute button"

I love how easy it is to program the x50. I'm a huge fan of no-manual required interfaces. However this really bothers me. Changing bands is different than any other setting on the detector. I know they will justify it by saying they don't want the user turning off a band by accident, but to me its just plain poor design.

The V1 on the other hand is even worse when it comes to programming. Without your guide as to which function does what, you can't change programming. For example, I want to turn my KU band back off, but without doublechecking the darn manual, I can't... arrrgh..

I agree, after using your X50 for a while (you or your wife) should be able to change most anything on it without even taking your eyes off the road...its extremely quick, effective, straightforward and simple.

Yeah I agree the whole modify the bands by the Mute button is different then the rest of the setup... but I will say its not bad at all if you think about it, I prefer it that way:

One thing is just like you said: they dont want people turning off a band on accident and having the hear the complaints of it...

I also know for my own security/peace of mind (when im not looking at the detector but changing a setting on it) that it would be impossible for me to have modified a band(turn it on/off) without pressing that mute button.

If you think about it most people dont turn bands on/off that often (we on here...fanatics...do it more often then the average consumer) but all-in-all pressing the mute button really isn't all that much of a hassle.
