Default Refurbish Passport 8500? How to tell?

    Hey Guys,

I am debating if I should get the passport 8500 from Ebay or from an authorized dealer. I know there's been a lot of discussion about the refurbished items on ebay. Is there anyway to tell if the item is a refurb? Like a manufacturer serial number or look for firmwire update?

    Thanks!

Stay away from the scum of ebay! Get it from a known good source as it will cost you less in the long run.

You are taking your chances, but if you must...

Look for a dealer that says in the auction that it is brand new, not a black market, 2nds or refurb and that offer an exchange warranty.

Get all that in writing from them, and try not to buy from a "superstore" looking dealer that sells a bunch of other junk.

That's my suggestion if you are going to go that route...

I think I'll just use this as my standard response to eBay inquiries from now on:

Feel free to buy it from eBay if you like having your time and money wasted by a-holes. If you prefer an honest, knowledgeable individual who backs up what he sells, however, go with Roy. A little more now will save you a lot in the long run.

Based on all the guys including myslef that have had problems with Bel/escorts freezing up or giving self cal messages I wouldn't buy one from anyone but Roy.
