Over at the Escort Europe site there is a "Qi45 Euro" unit, designated as "adapted for use in Europe". The specs on the site list it has Ka narrow bands, something that is missing from the US model. I got curious, so I sent an inquiry to Escort Europe what are the euro modifications for this model. I got this response:
The narrow bands I already saw in the specs. I understand Escort radars have problems detecting the Russian radars Iskra and Berkut, so this mod should address this problem (I'd hope, without increasing false alerts?). Now, I'm unsure of the "different intermediate frequency as a base" thing. What is the significance of it? I understand RDD's work by sweeping the intermediate frequencies used by RD units, so could this be related to RDD detectability? It has 5 Ka narrow bands, Kpulse modes for russian speed guns and different
intermediate frequency as a base.
I further inquired:
The response:So, at Laser, X, Ku and non-pulse K transmissions, the performance
should be the same as the US model, right?
What are your thoughts on this? Could the European version really be significantly improved performance-wise, or is this more likely a stunt? The performance is improoved dramatically on all bands including laser.
They're selling it for EUR 648, which is quite a bit more than what the US model goes for, but if their claims are true, it could well be worth it.
