Default Would this be enough visibility for the 9500ci? Will it work through dark plastic?

I have been desperately staring at our 09 Dodge Ram for weeks now thinking of the least conspicuous place to mount a 9500ci radar receiver that isn't visible even if someone looked at the front of the truck.

The best place I have found is the Ram Head badge on the front - dead center.

As you can see in the attached picture, the emblem is basically a chrome ram head with a black plastic background. My thought was to replace the solid black plastic with a dark transparent plastic, and mount the radar receiver behind it. Nobody would be able to tell that it existed at all.

    My only concerns are:

    1. Is the opening large enough (the black part at the top of the emblem seems to be the largest area).

    2. Will the radar receiver be functional through a dark tinted acrylic - or even a transparent acrylic that has been tinted with dark automotive tint?

As a last alternative - I've been toying with the idea of mounting the receiver behind the grille, and having a little motor or solenoid shoot it out of sight at the press of a button. Are the openings in the honeycomb grille large enough to allow the radar receiver to still be functional?

Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

DO not mount it behind anything, even the honeycomb will affect the reception. Ask DJ and Happya$$, they tried it and it severely limits KA reception.

So where would one install the receiver on a Dodge Ram that is not obviously visible to a cop in a province that makes detectors illegal? I think even behind the grille is too obvious - so I don't really know where to put it more discreetly!

I've looked at lots of installs and I think they are all too obvious. If I were a cop, I would absolutely notice the giant black boxes mounted all over the front end of a vehicle if I was walking up from the front.

    Like this one:

I think only a blind man would not notice them.

Ah in Canada it would be worth it to try and conceal it a bit. Just be careful until you have an idea of how it performs concealed.

I have mounted my 2 sti-r's every possible way you can whilst remaining conceled. IMHO mount your 9500ci directly above or below the Ram logo. Providing it is as flat behind as it is is front. Mounting behind curved surfaces and honeycomb grills kills performance. I have found that flat plastic works well. Just keep the front of the reciever about 2" away from the panel it's going behind.

I have just installed my STI-R behind the honeycomb grille in my Suzuki Swift. The only other place to put it is behind the solid plastic bumper which i thought would have killed the performance even more. I have shaved the grille to be wafer thin where the STI is though. Do you still think i should move it?

If you live someplace other than Canada test it out by running another detector on the windshield to compare performance.

If performance is better than the windshield unit it's ok.

My RADAR receiver is installed inside the grille cavity, slightly recessed, and in the shadow of the front license plate (but with an absolutely clear view out from under it). It's completely invisible unless you know where to look and what you're looking for.

I have noticed no performace issues with this mounting location, even way down low like that. On a Dodge Ram it should perform even better.
