I have been desperately staring at our 09 Dodge Ram for weeks now thinking of the least conspicuous place to mount a 9500ci radar receiver that isn't visible even if someone looked at the front of the truck.
The best place I have found is the Ram Head badge on the front - dead center.
As you can see in the attached picture, the emblem is basically a chrome ram head with a black plastic background. My thought was to replace the solid black plastic with a dark transparent plastic, and mount the radar receiver behind it. Nobody would be able to tell that it existed at all.
My only concerns are:
1. Is the opening large enough (the black part at the top of the emblem seems to be the largest area).
2. Will the radar receiver be functional through a dark tinted acrylic - or even a transparent acrylic that has been tinted with dark automotive tint?
As a last alternative - I've been toying with the idea of mounting the receiver behind the grille, and having a little motor or solenoid shoot it out of sight at the press of a button. Are the openings in the honeycomb grille large enough to allow the radar receiver to still be functional?
Let me know your thoughts, thanks!
