Default Redline: Suprior technology w/crappy quality

Lot's of, I'm sure, deserved praises for long distance sensitivity on this board. However, reliability of the RD on record leaves lots to be desired.
I will not buy it and no one else should until Escort recognizes the shoddy built and takes necessary steps to provide the value they are asking for the product!

Good luck we are just a small percentage compare to the other consumers that buy. Why will I have to cater to a small percentages when the larger percentages don't know nothing about ramp-up, I/O, Q/T and etc:

Mine has worked flawlessly, and i haven't seen that many complaints of issues here and on Escorts forum. Though there was some initially, it doesn't seem more than any other RD available.

X2 , I had run the sti , then replaced it by the redline .

Keep the sti as back-up . No complaints on both .

Don't be too hard on em.

I agree that the RedLine was somewhat problematic coming out of the gate and probably still has a higher rate of failure than competing products (even other Belscort M4 products). But, I would not necessarily attribute this to "shoddy" build practices. The fact is, no matter what level of testing you do in house some underlying issues do not make themselves apparent until you get hundreds of units into the field and start racking up thousands of hours of combined usage. This is where inconsistency with vendor components or subtle problems with your manufacturing process or code glitches get uncovered all too often. It's unfortunate, but Escort is not unique in having this affliction. As a manufacturer you simply cannot eliminate problems until you know there is a problem. Being in manufacturing myself, I often say quality cannot always prohibit defects........rather it's sometimes a measure of how you react and respond to them.

I believe Escort's reaction has been excellent. My personal experience, and in every incident I've read of, Escort has provided prompt and courteous service to get the Customer back up an running. They footed the shipping both ways for my detector and I had it back within a week.

Their long term response has obviously been on target with addressing the root cause of these issues as the number of problems reported has consistently dropped off since last October.

In any case, the M3 in the RedLine is tweaked to the limit and there is much more logic in that platform as compared to the M4. A super heterodyne detector is never going to achieve the reliability levels of the FM receiver in your car stereo.........as it's an ultra sensitive radio designed to find very weak signals, not RF transmitted in the kilowatts! The M3 being more sensitive, is also going to be more susceptible to components drifting out of spec.........even the slightest loss in voltage regulation or minute increase in resistance from a solder point will throw off it's calibration. So it's like any high performance car, likely to require more maintenance due to the increased parts and exact tolerances.

The good news here is that this detector tells you when it's having an issue more often than not. I can deal with the higher maintenance in light of the increased performance so long as it lets me know when it's not feeling well.

X2, they had some issues really early on. But mine has worked great for the year I have had it. The most common complaint I hear now with it, is the speaker goes bad.
