Default Passport IQ advertisement now in Car and Driver Magazine

I just got my November issue of Car and Driver magazine and as I thumbed through it realized that on page 15 of the magazine, is an advert for the new Passport IQ. Belscort are good marketers, because based on the ad alone, if I knew nothing else about detectors, I would be tempted to purchase the unit. Since I know better, i.e., that an improved unit will be released sometime next year, (hopefully with directional arrows and a rear antenna), or some other newer unit will likely be released incorporating the arrows and maybe the rear antanna, I will play the waiting game. My GX65 was just purchased two months ago anyway so it's hard to justify the purchase of the $650.00 unit. I also have a magellan standalone gps that I like. If this unit had stealth, I probably would just purchase it right now, LOL.

Yeah, I know what you mean but the IQ is gear for people who is not enthusiasts like us. They will probadly make a killing on that also. I have to admit those that they do look good and I might had got one myself but the ideal on having to put it up and take it down all the time.

Yeah. I live near Virginia and DC and travel through them often. Have to take down my gx65. Why doesn't Belscort just make a stealth dash detector with all the bels and whistles and sell it for a reasonable price. They could then corner the market. Guess they are making enough money off of non-enthusiasts. Escort is still in the detector business because of non-enthusiasts.

Ads in the newest issue of Roundel as well, but V1 owns the rear cover for years already

There's a V1 ad in the same issue of Car and Driver on page 59-far away from the Escort ad. Maybe the editors don't want the two ads to fight and that's why they separated them so far apart. Probably Escort paid more money so their ad could be seen first in the magazine-closer to the front.

Just saw that I mispelled the word bells. Maybe I should have written make a detector with all of the Bels and Whistlers, HaHa.

Probably for that magazine, but the rear cover is always more $$

Escort seems to have a fear of substantially lowering prices on its existing products, so every new one will be ever farther above "a reasonable price."

The difference between a blue x50 and a 9500ix is $160, so figure that's what they want for the addition of GPS, Truelock and the other bits that make it work.

The difference between an iQ and a 9500ix is $150, so figure that's what they want for the addition of the screen and navigation bits.

The difference between a Redline and a red x50 is $200, so that's what they want for using the M3 instead of the M4.

    $160 for GPS
$150 for navigation on top of that
    $200 for stealth
$??? for arrows when they add them

That's $510 for all the "features." If you add them to the price of a basic x50, that's $810, plus who knows how much for arrows once they can use them. It would probably be close to $1000.

It's sort of like if you had to pay $100,000 for a Honda Civic because of all the features it has over a Model T. But just think of the value.

Nice observation. $650.00 as it is now is my price point limit on a dash mount even with a screen. I do believe their detectors are overpriced considering the competition and the original claims that the V1 was overpriced. I will not pay $800 plus for a dash mount detector of any sort. I refused to pay that for the original GPS navigation devices but only bought one after the price came down substantially. I think a superb director can be made with the features for about $550.00-$600.00 without a screen. I already have a GPS. There is a reason non-enthusiasts buy sub $100 detectors. Not everyone can afford to pay $300.00 plus for a detector.
