Is my 8500 having problems?

It's been about 2 months now that I've been driving with this detector. Recently I've begun to question the performance. I know these aren't cop detectors, but man either the 8500 is broken or cops in RI almost never have their radar guns on (no laser here). I can understand a town cop driving around w/o radar on, and I see that often, but several times, about 10 over the past 2 weeks, there has been a state trooper in the median of the highway facing my side of the traffic. Nothing every time from the 8500. And there was even one day where I passed a record-for-me 11 cops on my 15 mile trip home, nothing at all. I suppose it could be that NONE of these cops had their radar guns on, but thats a large amount.
Today really worried me, and as I crested a hill the 8500 began chirping 35.5 Ka and the cop was maybe 500 feet in front of me with a customer. Of course the hill caused the late reaction, but I was right next to him and the signal strength didn't even make half. The final thing that set me off happened just a few hours ago, when just randomly the 8500 turned off and restarted instantly. I still have 4 months on my warranty, and if a problem is forming, I want to get it fixed before that time.

it seems you know mostly what you are talking about, so most odds are your dead on and there is probably something defective with the detector, especially only half up right next to a Ka alert. I would suggest sending it into Escort for servicing

Yea I figured, just wanted some expert confirmation. I also forgot to add that it has been occasionally falsing K band at 24.250 or around there, full alert, for no reason at all. What are the steps I need to take if I decide to sent it in?
