    Default Detector Tools v1.8

I received an email today that Detector Tools v1.8 is available for download.
I guess I have to log on then download the new version 1.8
Do I just launch it after downloading and it will overwrite the previous version 1.7? or must I first remove my v1.7, then download and then launch the new v1.8?

I didn't save the email and can't remember all it said. I was going to do it right after the email, but the phone got me off track on what all it said.

Thanks for any replies........ I'm stuck on stupid when it comes to computer stuff...aye

The product registration section says the following:

All previous versions of Detector Tools must be uninstalled before installing this latest version. To remove your older Detector Tools versions, navigate to the Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs & Features (Windows Vista or newer) within the Control Panel. Wait for the list of installed programs to load and then remove/uninstall any Detector Tools programs listed there

This is from the Escort Radar Forum.
    Detector Tools v1.8 released

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASSPORT iQ, PASSPORT 9500ix, PASSPORT 9500ci and PASSPORT SC55 owners

Detector Tools Version 1.8 is available for download.

This is a mandatory download for PASSPORT iQ owners!

    Detector Tools Version 1.8 Overview:

    • Detector Tools v1.8 is a mandatory download to update Passport IQ.
    • Detector Tools v1.8 has a built in updater. Therefore the need to uninstall and install future tools should be eliminated.
    • Detector Tools v1.8 works with all Passport USB devices including 9500i, 9500ix, 9500ci, SC55 and IQ.
    • You will need an active internet connection to use this tool. Windows security settings and firewalls (including third party software such as Internet connectivity software and Virus-Scan) can inhibit this software from connecting to our server.
    • Once installed, the update process becomes a simple couple of clicks.

If you read through the above, you will see that the post indicates after installation of this recent detector tools (version 1.8), you will not have to install and uninstall future versions because the software will update itself. That would seem to suggest that for current versions, (version 1.7 and below), the detector tools software should be uninstalled prior to installing version 1.8. In other words, uninstall version 1.7 prior to installing version 1.8 of the detector tools software.

I didn't remove 1.7 first. 1.8 overwrote it and seems to working fine. Not suggesting you do the same, just sayin'.

I just upgraded to v1.8, after first uninstalling v1.7 on my win xp machine.

I updated my 9500ix and ran into no issues or problems.

There appears to be no visual differences or functionality between the new and old versions.

I updated to 1.8 this AM and had a heck of a time on my Vista laptop getting the latest weekly update to go to the 9500ci. It kept locking up and showing no progress or showing 100% complete and then saying install failed. I finally loaded 1.8 onto my Windows 7 machine and everything went through like clockwork!!

I'm running Windows 7 and I'll see about getting the 1.8 tomorrow after work. Don't want something hosed up right now.. raise my blood pressure.... have a stroke... and ruin a night of sleep. I get so frustrated when anything computer wise acts up on me. I'll save my sanity till the work week is done.

    Thanks for the replies

You can put some software in and then run a virtual machine that runs windows on your system. Probably the only solution ... doubt Escort is working hard on a port to apple.

Thanks. That sounds complicated. Hopefully they'll come out with something for mac before his PC breaks.
