Default Conversation with Escort Rep at SEMA

There were no engineers there, as they had all left by Tuesday, but this is the best information I could get from him.

    1. The OLED display of the Solo S3 is being used mainly because it uses less power, thus extending battery life. It's not something they plan to use on other detectors, at least at this point.

    2. He didn't seem to have much technical knowledge, but from what I got out of him, it appears that the Solo S3 is some sort of modified M2. According to him, it's definitely not an M4. However, he claims that the Solo S3 performs very close to that of an M4. I told him that I would hold him to that and contact him after our next GoL if he turns out to be wrong.

    3. He admitted to me that his Passport iQ has terrible Ka rampup and that it goes off at full blast on Ka band almost the entire time he gets an alert, so he clearly understands the rampup problem. However, he says that nothing at Escort is done accidentally and that there is some purpose for the awful rampup. I can't imagine the amount of genius it would take to do that on purpose.

    4. I had a long conversation with him explaining that Escort is losing favor amongst most enthusiasts(basically everyone but due to the fact that all of their detectors have poor reactivity and terrible rampup. I told him that I have to compliment my 9500ci with a V1, because of these glaring deficiencies.

You would think it would seem logical to have enthusiasts help in the development of their products. Too logical, I guess. I'm gonna wait for MV to sell out and make a bid.

OLED is used where there is a low\barely-existent power source. No surprise here.

Who is "He"? Did you get names? I highly doubt an Escort Rep would say those things.

Funny I went to the booth as well to make suggestions on behalf of places where RD's are illegal. My big one is don't put passport or escort all over your concealed units. You conceal them for a reason right? I also told them that the 9500ci should have the option to come with shifters. And of course QT and the slow response times was another issue brought up.

I told them with V1's patent with the arrows coming to a end Escort should consider looking into that. Just think a 9500ci with arrows or a redline with arrows WOW!

That was one of my big concerns with the IQ. It's going to take all of about 2 months before every traffic cop in North America quickly recognises them on sight. The usefulness of the disguise thing will be short lived.

That would be a neat detector! It seems like Escort's headed away from enthusiasts and more toward average consumers though. Maybe its the majority of its sales. I wonder if cops will figure out that the IQ is more than a nav system?

Escort should sell small "tom-tom" stickers to fit over its logo.

Arrows on a Redline and QT protection, this would be very very interesting.

I doubt it, Fritter still can't distinguish units and he's more knowledgeable than the majority of LEO's about countermeasures.

I doubt if 99.9 percent of buyers are buying it for the "disguise" factor.
