Hello All,
I just joined the forum, and thought I would give a quick report of my first radar detector trip in years - 3,000 miles from San Francisco to Tampa - and ask a few questions.
Since this was a "shake down" trip, I decided to leave the Redline set to all factory defaults.
X band: 1 true alert in New Mexico, innumerable (and expected) false alerts,
K band: a few true alerts, a surprising number of false alerts,
Ka band: a lot of true alerts, some so far ahead I thought they would never arrive
Laser" 2 true alerts, in Georgia and Florida, better than expected in that it picked up scatter from the car in front being lit up.
Questions:
X band: Are there states or large areas where I can safely turn X band off?
K band: What can I do to minimize the extensive false alerts?
By way of background, I bought one of the original Escorts back when Congress imposed the National 55 speed limit. It was ridiculous in the western states and I grew wary of depending on the kindness of the Highway Patrol. I stopped using the detector when the National 55 limit went away. I just bought the Redline beacause traffic enforcement is now becoming a blood sport.
