    Default X-band better then Ka-band with X50?

When driving to the same speed trap in my town, sometimes there is a SUV shooting X-band instant on, and sometimes there is a cruiser shooting Ka-band constant on.

In the case of the X-band instant on, I will receive warnings as his gun goes on and off up before the road curves left to the straight away where the cop is hiding. Once I round the corner the warnings continue as the officer uses his gun. No complaints here, x-band seems to be working perfectly.

In the case of the Ka-band constant on, I will receive warnings from his gun only when I have rounded the corner and I am driving directly toward him. In expert mode 2 Ka-band bars come up for the 1 LEO. The warning time is significantly worse. I have noticed that I have to be almost ontop of the LEO when coming from behind to get a Ka-band warning from him aswell.

It seems as though when I see other LEO's using Ka-band and I get the 2 Bar expert mode warning the time is also reduced.

Whats going on here? It doesnt make me feel very secure.

    Comments appreciated.

Ka band is fundamentally harder to detect than X, just because of the incredibly wide spectrum range it resides on. For that reason, detectors have a harder time picking it up, especially when instant-on is employed.

Ka is also a shorter wave form, X band is very long, longer the father it goes. Does short wave radio ring a bell... short wave i.e. short range.

Not to mention, the recent GOL testing. Ka range at best was 1700 feet. X band was nearly 3000 feet.

Wait a second, Short wave radio can be picked up for miles and miles around the world. FM is limited to shorter distances. AM can be picked up further due to amplitute modulation & skip.

The lower the frequency the further you can pick it up has been my observation. I may be wrong however someone else may be able to clairfy.

it seems strange that I can detect the single Ka-band more easily then when I have two at once.
