If an 8500 FCC I.D. # does not have M4 in it is it an S7?

Good now is an S7 x50 better than an S7 8500
That's debatable.
Escort advertised up to 50% more range but that might be an overstatement. I think the X50 is noticeably better on K-Band compared to the 8500 units I've had and Ka is very close. The X50 I have now is pretty hot on both bands.
The 8500 has SWS, the X50 does not (real disappointing I know) and the X50 has POP which is highly recommended that you DO NOT enable (falsing).
The only advantage to the older 8500 is price and perhaps slightly faster response times compared to the X50. I thought I saw somewhere that Jimbonzzz tested the response times between the two and found the 8500 to be quicker.
My recommendation........go for the X50.

S7 X50 it is
what is up with the SELF CALibration?? it is normal that it occurs?
Yes its normal, but doesn't announce it unless its having trouble. Its basically electronically recalibrating its self for optimal sensitivity. Most new RD's (Belscorts) do it periodically to insure optimal performance with out announcing its doing it.
AirMoore, if it starts to do it again you might want to send it in for a tune.

Do M3 based detectors have "M3" in the FCC ID?
