So the Redline arrived last Thursday to my house with the return letter for the $80 credit for my 11 year old 10 band Cobra. I purchased the Redline because I needed something I could switch between cars, and have great performance.
I took it out for a quick test drive and it did great. I tried out the different filtering settings and the AutoX works great in my area as there are no X band radars in use by LEOs. So far, so good.
I took it on a 400 mile trip this past weekend. This worked out perfectly for me to get the detector and also try it out on a long term. This will sound a bit silly, but I woke up early in anticipation of using this detector and to see how much better it would be than the Cobra.
To start off, I was blown away. I had it on Highway mode for most of the trip, except for sometimes on a interstate that has the radar drones for traffic speed detection. I live in a very hilly and curvy part of the country so I think it’s a good test of the detectors abilities. 1st alert was a C/O Ka band when I was just topping a hill. About a half mile away through a valley a trooper sat just near the top of another hill. Pretty good I thought.
Next alert was insane. I entered a more flat section of country and had a K band alert. So I slow down look at the mileage to try to gauge how well this alert is. I drove approx. 1.4 miles and see a LEO JUST entering the highway with the Redline going nuts on K band. So this Redline picked up a LEO using C/O K band who was perpendicular to my car well over 1.4 miles away. Amazing.
I had some what appeared to be I/O hits. One was a state trooper traveling the other direction, but got the alert before I saw him. I had a “rabbit”, that I learned about from the forums to help out. I got a weak Ka alert then about 3-4 seconds later a full blast of Ka and saw the tropper. I had another Ka C/O detection around a curve, and down a hill from a LEO traveling the opposite direction in which I had about 15 seconds to slow down. What’s interesting is that he was traveling the opposite direction and his elevation was approx. 75 feet above my direction of highway and through a curve. I had another C/O K band alert with a LEO traveling the opposite direction in which I had approx 1 min to slow down. I had another C/O K band alert…could not see the LEO. It gets stronger and stronger and then full blast. About 2-3 seconds later I see a LEO traveling the opposite direction BEHIND a tractor trailer. At about the same time a car FLIES by me going every bit of 120. I did not think the LEO saw him. The about 10 secs later I get a weak K band alert and look back about 3/4 of a mile to see the LEO I had just past lights on and in pursuit mode…yikes. Last alert was a K band C/O. I had about 25 seconds of warning only to see the LEO facing the opposite direction and AT AN ANGLE! I was like…wow….
So far so good. I hope it stays in tune and the speaker holds up! Hope this was helpful!
