Well, I had an interesting experience yesterday. PSL was 55, I was doing 75ish the whole way. Then I see those dreaded blue lights in my rearview; an undercover in a brown Crown Vic. I look up and my redline hasn't even made a peep, no K and, or Ka band. It was dead silent. So, I'm thinking he has nothing on me since he hadn't radared me. However, his first words out of his mouth were "I clocked you going 74 in a 55". He said I actually passed him, and then he got behind me. The ticket reads "failure to obey speed limit sign 74/55 Car ### clocked for .5 miles". So, either constant on for half a mile with a silent Redline, or he used his speedometer.
Now, I'm going more with the speedometer idea, but has anyone else had this experience? I had the redline set to highway, X off. I'm in southwestern PA, south of Pittsburgh, and he was a state trooper so I can't see him using X band. Laser is out of the question since he was moving throughout the whole thing.
As for the detector, I've had the service required message three times, but it still picks up the false K and Ka band road signs well; last message was over a week ago. I called the company after the third and I'll be getting a replacement since I just bought it a month ago to replace my Bel 955. So, I suppose its possible for it to be the detector but I'm doubting it. I do admit I lost some trust in it, though. I've yet to have detections over a mile and a half out, though, so we will see with the new one.
I'll probably just pay it, being he only wrote me up for a failure to obey a traffic signal. Its no points and a hell of a lot cheaper, so I didn't argue with him or ask to see the radar gun.
Either way, a warning to the rest of you to keep your eyes open and make sure to triple check who it is thats behind you if you have someone behind you.
