Thumbs down New 8500 refurb; Service required right out of the box.

First post here, but I have been reading and researching for some time now. I have had a Whistler Pro-78se for a year now and have never had a problem. It has always performed great but decided to try something different based on the reviews here.

Anyways like my title says I ordered a new refurb 8500 non x50 from Escorts eBay store, open the box plug it in and take it for a spin. Within 1 minute of turning it on it gives a self calibrating alert followed by service required.

My question is to all, should I send it back and upgrade to the refurb x50 model, since I'm within the two week not fully satisfied window. Or should I just send this one back and hope for better reliability next time. I have read the old 8500 refurbs were hit or miss.

Thanks in advance, any advise before I ship this back is appreciated.

It is worth the hassle of getting it right because once they are right, NOTHING can touch its sensitivity at that price point

That's what attracted me to the 8500, value and performance. I'll give them another try and hope it doesnt happen again.

Does any one know what the return time is once it's sent back? I'm going to call Escort first thing this morning.

so you'd consider the x50 superior to the rx65?

I'd consider the S7 RX65 superior because of its Ka USA mode.

Give escort another shot with your 8500. They will make it right. Turnaround should be in under two weeks.

I have just had bad luck with refurbished things. This is the second time I have purchased refurbished electronic equipment and have it go bad. I sent it in for a refund and bought a new 8500 x50.

    So far this ones perfect.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks for the concern but I called and told them I wanted a refund. I just have not had good luck with refurbished electronic equipment. I had a bad refurbished iPhone as well.

Anyways I purchased a new 8500 X50 and so far it works great!
