Well, here's the new X50:
Compare that to the M4 RX-65:
Looks almost the same to me, the horn casting appears to be slightly different between the two though:

Great find / info.
The QKLX5M4 X50 horn/design is VERY different to the regular/original X50's. The horn looks a lot shorter. Would this be better/worse for detection range?
Its kind of funny that they put the new X50 in an 8500 shell for the tests
Indeed, it looks like the exact same platform. The controls are obviously re-configured for the respective button/knob/display layouts. I imagine that some of the other junk packed into the RX65 has to do with the voice module.
I wonder if this is the typical cost cutting move one usually sees in manufacturing  I hope not and IF it is a cost cutting move I hope performance does not suffer. There is only ONE way to find out though and that is GOL's next shootout
RIP Duncan my BELOVED black lab son 8/7/99-3/23/11. I will miss you DEARLY.

LET THE BIRTH OF MANY TESTING GROUPS HAPPEN!
You want to know what it is like doing something for the love and passion and not for the mighty dollar then look up GOL!
buyradardetectors rocks!
Sure it is cost cutting. When a company buys another company, enventually things get stream lines, why make two different things whne you can just use one. Performance should not suffer, but competition will to achieve better range. Features and options are a different story.Originally Posted by happya$$

I know that to detect those weak photo radar Multanovas, people actually make the horns LONGER and BIGGER to detect the faint signal. In this case, it looks like the new RX65/X50s have SHORTER horns than before! So unless the electrnics inside are somehow much more sensitive, perhaps this is a step backwards?
I doubt it...Originally Posted by nvr2fast
If anything, as the different circuits and chips become more advanced and lower in price, companies can find a more efficient way of getting the results they want.
This is completely new hardware. It is most likely an improvement, if any change in performance at all.
