Default fixes for the electrical problem in old 8500's?

I love my regular escort 8500 but it seems to be falsing a TON on the laser band and i know it's from lack of power but the voltage meter shows the power is ok. Has anyone heard of any possible fixes for this other than buying a new rd?

The original 8500 and old V1's had a problem especially with turbo cars. To fix the provlem, V1 released a new plug with a filter capacitor (1uF) and passport released a new detector.

ya the only thing is i don't want to buy a new detector since i still haven't seen much proof that makes me believe that my old 8500 isn't performing at the same level and possibly higher.

It would be easy to make a filter for your detector to plug in through.

I've also been told that the problem you describe can be attributed to a failing distributor in your car. Might try it in another car and see what happens.

Bad/cracked plug wires or using non-resistor plugs could cause a lot of noise. Another option would be to maybe buy one of those commercial kits to suppress ignition noise...
