9500ix POP on/off?
So I have been playing with my new Bushnell and a 9500ix (don't worry, I haven't been blasting it right in the horn), and I was seeing what difference POP on/off meant.
From what I could tell.... It seemed to make no difference at all. I turned POP on/off with the V1 and there was a noticeable difference. I could sneak them by with POP off, but I don't think the V1 missed one shot with POP on.
So I guess my question is, should I keep POP on or off on the 9500ix? It seemed to have the exact reaction time with POP on as off. Are there advantages either way? I was a little shocked to see how easy it was to sneak shots by the 9500ix.
Thanks again to 9c1 on the great videos on V1 parking.

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
Hmm no one has any experience with this?

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
I think it depends on where you live. I am pretty sure in Ohio, POP is still used. Mine is on.
There are others on this board with waaaay more knowledge than me that could answer in more detail.

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
With POP set to on the 9500iX will sweep Ka at 33.8GHz about every 50msec. This in no way aids the detection of K band which is what your Bushnell is putting out. Escort POP is only designed to detect Ka POP.

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
Absolutely On, especially since the 9500ix decreases K-band sensitivity at lower speeds. Sooner or later you will encounter POP (or other burst technologies), and some evidence suggests the certain detectors perform better with POP on. IIRC the 9500 series is built with most of the same internals as the current version of the 8500 X50, correct? If so, definitely set POP on. Independent testing has shown that the 8500 X50 will pick up many burst signals without POP on, but it does very well with burst signals in all bands when POP is turned on (such as the Ka-band Stalker ATR with a burst capability).

I've always been under the impression that its not good to have on unless POP is used in your area (Ohio). Being it looks for POP so often it can reduce the range of the RD.

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
I was not aware of this. I thought POP was almost always associated with K band radar.

Re: 9500ix POP on/off?
I'm not aware of POP being used in Ohio. I've only heard of it being used recently in some areas of NV but I cannot confirm this.
POP is commonly confused with instant-on radar but they are different technologies. POP is a special computer controlled mode used only on a few model of radar guns made by MPH Industries. According to MPH POP mode is only to be used to get an initial speed reading then normal radar is supposed to be used to issue the citation.
Enabling POP mode on our detectors will help detect Ka POP (not K POP) but it will also negatively impact the detection of Ka radar as insidercw3 correctly pointed out. The detector is constantly taking time out of it's normal scans to look for Ka POP. Your Bushnell is transmitting K band which will not be impacted much by POP. K band POP is around 16ms (16/100s of a second) which I don't think any detector will reliably detect. Luckily POP is extremely rarely used.
If you have POP on and are getting POP alerts then they are probably cause by nearby leaky detectors. The next time you get a POP alert look around and see if you see a detector in a windshield
I recommend to leave POP off just due to the falses but you can leave it on if you wish.
