Redline not well thought out!

I just received my new Redline and have a couple gripes. The foremost purpose of this detector is it's stealth. Most people purchasing this for stealth will more than likely have to mount it high on their windshields to avoid prying eyes. It's very difficult to place the Redline high on the windshield because of the upward facing buttons. Fingers block the display while accessing and changing features as well. Front mounted buttons would have been better for this purpose. For those who can have the Redline located lower on the windshield the buttons would not be as bothersome and actually quite well placed. I look forward to testing it against my STi during my 1,000 mile trip coming up this week.

X2... also they should have provided a brightness button to allow switching the display to dark mode without having to enter programming mode.

The "lip" really should have been at a 45 degree angle. It would make the high mount no problem. But I continue to say the engineers must not really be using these things, if so, there would be a lot of changes made BEFORE production.

I like the lip on Redline, as I can grasp it w/o worrying about pulling it off windshield, thumb - below for support. I also memorized the programming order, though that takes awhile.

Yeah, mines is up high I wish the lip was better but I have gotten use it. I have a 3000 miles trip coming up the end of this month and I can't wait.

I actually like the redline's design, although I wish it had a fourth button for brightness.

Also, keep in mind the redline has a break in period for about a month, so your first impression shouldn't determine how well it performs.

I didn't like the lip at first, until I started using it to help change modes. It is brilliant by design in the sense that, if used while programming, you can use the lip to help avoid "crushing" the buttons. I had a tendancy to push down (too hard) on the buttons, at first and actually screwed one of them up, requiring a trip to the factory. Once you are used to the unit you don't need to see the display to change modes anyway. The voice does a good job. :)

The lack of a brightness button is another set back on both the STi and Redline. It would be nice to be able to switch to dark mode without going into programming. Even better would be an actual remote display like the V1. In my particular car, I cannot mount it in the perfect location like I could my STi. The visor prevents me from accessing the buttons. Instead, I have had to move it to the upper left hand corner of the window. I can access the buttoms fine there, but I can't see the display while accessing them. Voice prompts help. The only cons in it's current location now are it's further away and off center from the front plate and it's sitting at a slight angle. Do you think the slight angle will result in lower performance? I definitely prefer the Redline's audible alert tones better than my STi.

It's hard to say, as windshield shapes vary.

I recommend testing it in that location vs. stationary radar sources to see if it makes a difference.

I didn't really like the lip at first, because it gets in the way of viewing the readout when mounted high. Once I got used to it and started to remember how to use the buttons without seeing them. Now I actually like this design better than on my Bel RDs because I can mount way high and still have access to the buttons. On my Bels, I always had to leave finger room above the unit.

I'm very happy with my Redline, it amazes me often.
