Default 8500 x50 no longer performing well

I have had an 8500x50 for about 3 years now. I got it used from a friend and sent it to excort for service when I got it because it was not performing well. After I got it back it seemed to work pretty well.

This summer I have had an hour commute with lots of cops along the high way. Most of the time the detector would pick up the cop, but only with just enough time to hit the breaks before seeing him. The past couple days it has not even gone off until I'm almost next to the cop, making it completely useless because I have already seen him by the time it goes off. I don't think they are using instant on either because the detector keeps going off for about 5 sec after I pass the cop

Is there anything I can do to increase the sensitivity or get it working better again besides sending it in to Escort. Three years and then needing service doesn't seem very good to me.

I may just buy a V1 and sell the escort as I hear that they are better for highway driving and I do a lot of highway through rural areas.

I haven't used an x50, but I've used an 8500. It is a nice detector, but the V1 is a superior detector. I personally use the V1 and love it. From here though the Redline/V1 and 9500ix discussion always ensues ha!

If you have the money, upgrade. If not, I would send it in. It is a good detector, and the service fee is much cheaper than $400-$500. However, I think you would be very happy to see the performance difference in the high end detectors.

I'm finding this issue myself. It may be partially related to a need for a firmware update, but there is no doubt that the V1 and Escort Redline both offer significantly better performance due to better hardware. If you drive on the highway, I would consider them. I love my V1 and swear by it; many people will tell you the same about the Redline.
