I've spent most of the weekend trying to decide whether to upgrade my current RX65 (S7) to a newer RD and am hoping for the benefit of some of your combined wisdom. I'm soon to embark on one of my 2x/year Dallas to NW Indiana trips and wonder if it isn't time to invest in some new equipment. Unfortunately, I can't afford this hobby so I need to get ir right the first time.
In addition to this biannual trip, I also travel about once a month to Austin (I35) or Houston (I45). My daily commute is about 30 miles each way in a mixed suburban / city highway setting. I try to stay about psl +10 in the city and psl +20 on the highway. We have lots of red light cameras in North TX, but no speed cameras (yet) but I don't like running red lights.
I think I'd really like the Stir Plus, but it's out of my budget. I like BEL, but the GX65 just isn't priced right next to the 9500ix. I've traveled with my brother's V1 and found the number of falses so overwhelming that using it just wasn't helpful.
Given my usage, which of the following advice would you give me:
1. Sit tight and save my money. The added performance from my RX isn't enough to justify several hundred dollars since I've already got 90%+ of the value. Something even better is bound to come along soon.
2. Get the 9500ix because it has the best combination of city/highway and I'll get better performance than currently in both areas and I do much more city than highway driving.
3. Get the RedLine because of the exceptional highway performance. If it is too noisy in the city, I can still use the RX which will be almost as good as the 9500ix (except for the GPS features). I can save my money and add the SC55 later if I really need the GPS database.
4. Reconsider the V1. It is better than ever, it won't be any noisier than the RL, and it is cheaper.
I'd appreciate any thoughtful information you'd have.
