Dropped RADAR detector
Good Afternoon,
The suction cups gave out and my Escort 8500 x50 dropped from the window onto the hard part of my car near the gear shift area... a 3' drop... Also it has been in a 100 degree car.
Anyway, it seems to power up and still work. I shake it and nothing is loose inside.
All that said, is it still working right? What I need is for the city to put up their Ka Speed sign again to test it...
A few weeks ago it was working absolutely great... my parents always said a RADAR detector is dumb; save your money... don't speed...
Well, then they came and visted me (I moved across country)... Anyway, they were impressed and totally changed their mind after I would say, "In a moment, you will see a police car approach most likely from XYZ dept. I am switching to the slower lane. Watch all the people ahead they will tap their brakes when they see him."
Anyway, recently I have not noticed the same sensitivity is why I am posting this. Also, it is hard to test it without a Ka Sign.
Part of the problem is the cops here turn Constant On RADAR on and off, on and off. What I need is someone to turn it on and leave it on long enough for me to get a good, long alert from a distance then spot the source with certainty. It is hard to do when there are like 3 police cars each spaced out a tenth of a mile, and I don't know which one blased RADAR...
Any Georgia meets?

I dropped my v1 about 4 feet down onto the concrete. It still works fine. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it :P

Re: Dropped RADAR detector
99 percent likely it's still fine, but if you're not sure, try it on some door openers to see if it alerts at the same range as before.

Re: Dropped RADAR detector
Make sure the cups are secure each time before installing the detector.
Mine has yet to drop *knocks on wood* but it occasionally hangs by one suction cup if I don't push them down beforehand.

Re: Dropped RADAR detector
Should be fine...they are built to take a beating although don't do it for self-amusement.
. Use marine silicone for a semi-perm mount, Vaseline for non (messy), and/or WRAP your detector cord around the top of your rear view if it is not hardwired, so that if it gives it will hang versus fall....you should be mounting your RD that high anyway and while not as 'clean' it is functional.
