    Exclamation Letter to the CEO

Another day and another new batch of Escort and Bel detectors WITHOUT the performance firmware we have been asking for!

While I like the continuous improvement tweaks that Escort/Bel apply to their lineup, the most obvious........simple........and best bang for the buck options are still NOT THERE! I'm talking about Ka Band Segmentation, RDR options, USA mode and fixing the over reactive ramp up on the Escort models.

What good is 60% improvement if a LEO can go completely undetected just by quick triggering his Radar? What good is all that range if you can't tell if he's 1/4 mile down the road or 3 miles down the road?

Why does Belscort continue to focus on improving the strengths of these detectors while ignoring their weakness?

If you want all around solid protection in the best product possible, join me and your fellow forum members by participating in this mail in program!

It's time to send a message to the top and get the most capable products that Escort and Bel can offer. It's time to get the advanced firmware features that are available in Europe right back here in the States! These options will make a good detector great.......and a great detector magnificent.

Just copy and paste the text in this post into your own word formatter and edit in your own information. Then print it out, and get it in the mail. If you prefer to write your own letter, that's even better........the important thing is we act together and get this message across NOW.

    Date:

Subject: Petition for Advanced Firmware Options & Improved Audio Ramp Rate.

    Dear Mr. Larson,

For years experienced users have been seeking solutions to several nagging issues with their Escort & Beltronics detectors. The issues center on slow response times and poor audio alert ramp up. Both are viewed as serious deficiencies in what are otherwise superior products.

A comprehensive test (published on your EscortRadar Forum) indicates that most of your detectors require upwards of 700ms of signal duration for consistent detection of radar! Considering that all modern digital radars can read a speed and go back into hold in well under .5 seconds, the risk of 'missed alerts' to your customers is obvious. Also, the audio alert rate on Escort products (RedLine, 9500ix, 9500ci......etc.) is overstated, prohibiting users from accurately judging distance to source.

It’s encouraging that your engineering team has already found solutions to both problems, however they continue to exist on most Escort/Bel models. The response time issue was addressed in a very unique and innovative fashion by using Ka Band Segmentation (with an option to disable RDR) in the STi-R and STi-R Plus remote models. Reduction of swept Ka bandwidth to just the prime police frequencies allows the time consuming Radar Detector Rejection filtering to be switched off without risk of excessive Ka falsing. This resulted in vastly improved response times as well as increased detection range. A similar solution was applied to the Bel RX65 in the form of USA mode (a canned combination of Band Seg & RDR) making it your only windshield mount capable of reliably detecting sub 300ms radar transmissions. The issue of poor audio ramp up (Ka in particular) is apparently one that can also be resolved with firmware as the STi-R and STi-R Plus provide a very usable and accurate audio alert rate.

Members of the radar forum community (composed of your best customers) would like to persuade you to propagate these innovative and effective options onto other existing and future models along with the improved audio ramp rate. We feel that by doing so, we all benefit from the improved performance and can finally eliminate the few legitimate gripes commonly associated with Escort and Beltronics products.

Thank You for your consideration in these matters,

NOTE: This letter was posted on the EscortRadar Forum and deleted by the Escort rep over there. Don't let them shut us out! It's time for the CEO of Escort to address these conerns with his Boss..........us, the Customer!

If Michael Valentine can take the time to personally repair one Customer's detector, what is the CEO of Escort willing to do for the many of us on these forums who want these issues addressed? It's time to find out.

The guy (CEO) at Escort is pretty willing to sit-back and take a fat paycheck all well doing absolutely nothing for the consumer... we know this much so far.

The fact that the Escort Rep. deleted it pretty much tells you everything about their customer care... Escort doesn't care.

Well at least I'm beginning to understand how they come up with saying "we haven't heard many complaints". It appears that they simply delete them.

Hmmm.......I'm willing to give John the benefit of the doubt, maybe his management team has just failed to inform him in the appropriate manner. So let's make sure John gets this message without all that middle management filtering.

If the letter itself was deleted than that is a -1 to Escort, and it defeats the purpose of even bothering with the postage as they have already made their answer clear.

I would be happy if they just dropped the city button and made it a ka filter on or ka filter off button.

It's calling their bluff. I'm positive that slow response times and poor ramp up are on the all time high list of complaints........but yet they continue to deny it. So we are down to this, I'll open a poll here and see who's right. If we only get 10-50 responders then they're right.....there are only a few squeaky wheels full of hot air. It's time to put up or shut up and forever hold thy peace.

I'll happily drop a $1 on the envelope and postage to get my ticky mark on the board!

Here is the problem. We probably do not represent most radar detector users. Ultimately, most people whine about false alerts. Probably 98% of users think a ramp up is a freeway exit on an incline and 'IO' and 'QT' mean nothing to them.

Very true! But the professional RD drivers all reside on these forums for the most part and represent their (Belscort's) best repeat customers. The average Joe owns a friggin Cobra!

Who are you going to cater to? The folks that buy top end detectors in multiples, or the soccer mom who once nailed with a radar/lidar ticket will be convinced that RDs don't work and will never be back.

How many noobs have you talked into owning a detector? I lost count after about 20 or so. Until they get these issues resolved I only have two on my list of affordable well balanced detectors...........the V1 and the refurbed RX65.

Play with the X50 Black...it's pretty nice and I am curious as to how fast it is. I have one if you want to toy with it.
