    Default 9500i -> 9500ix Upgrade

My 9500i has to go in for repairs. The audio keeps cutting in and out. Either the speaker is blown or it's shorting out.

Anyway, the cost as most of you know is $59 for the repair, but then I asked about upgrading it to a 9500ix. I was told that they would do the repair and the upgrade for $149.

I live in Michigan and we don't have red light/speed cameras here, but thought that the autolearn and the Traffic Sensor Rejection might be interesting. Besides, I was going to have to spend $60 to get the unit repaired anyway so for an extra $120, I would be getting essentially a new 9500ix.

I'm leaning towards getting it done. Just was looking from thoughts from others on this.

    Thanks.

You will get several new features and it will look and function like new.

One major feature that is sort of undocumented is the 9500ix's ability to unlearn already stored falses alerts. If it doesn't see the same frequency signal in the same location a certain number of times then it will unlearn it. This cannot be disabled because it's sort of a safety feature if you or it accidentally stores a threat. AutoLearn alone is great too. You just drive and let it do it's thing. No more worrying if you locked out a threat in an area you don't travel to often.

The 9500ix will not say "GPS acquired" on bootup. Just verbally let you know when you lose GPS.

We may have more in store for the 9500ix too but we won't be doing anything more for the 9500i, guaranteed.

Thanks. Was bummed when the the speaker/audio went out.

I've really enjoyed my 9500i. I posed in the General forum how i can't overstate how much a value how quiet these detectors are. When it goes off, I know that I have to pay attention.

I'm going to feel naked not having an RD in the car. I shipped it off today. It would've gotten there tomorrow, but I wasn't sure that there is anyone ther eto receive it, so it should get there Monday morning.

Will it really take that long?

Also is the ramping issue addressed? My 9500i was one of the first units that had terrible ramp up. It was fixed somewhat with later firmware upgrades, but there was still some room for improvements.

I think the upgrade to a 9500ix is a good choice.

It should be taken care of and shipped back to you in 7-10 business days. You were correct we aren't normally here on weekends so we wouldn't even get to it until Monday at the earliest.

The audio ramp up should be the same as your 9500i after you updated it with newer firmware.

I think you will be delighted with the 9500ix upgrade.

Got mine back today in less than a week from when Escort received it. It has a completely new serial number. Did they just give me a complete new unit? I guess thought they applied firmware updates to the original.

I like some of the other subtle touches to make the dector quieter without compromising over all detection. For example the fact that it'll just give you a quick double beep alert if you're going 20mph or less. We'll have to see how the Autolearn works. We don't have red light or speed cameras in Michigan so I'll have to test that in my drives back to Chicago or into Ohio.

It's your 9500i that was upgraded to a 9500ix, we do not replace them. The serial number has to change to a 9500ix's so that the Detector Tools application recognizes it as a 9500ix when you connect it to your computer.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the 9500ix so far.

They obviously changed the outer shell too since it now says 9500ix.

So the outer top now says 9500ix like a new unit? Hmm, does it power up with just the USB port when you attach it to the computer to update?
