OK, so I do have an Escort 9500ix. I like it. I've also owned the Valentine V1, which now in comparison seems like a much more straight forward and earnest product.
The marketing gimmick that is around Escort Live seems a bit over the top. Is anyone else with me on this? They seem to be taunting it as a revolution in radar detectors, but in reality it does not seem much different than the 9500ix considering that you will need "live" people to send you back signals, which may be rare.
Likewise, I remember when the 9500ix supposedly had "speed trap" information updated - I've never seen it, and I travel around NJ/NY tri-state area! Will live be the same case?
Also, it seems incredibly bulky. I know many of us go through steps to make our radar detector seem "oem" and hidden in the car, with blend mounts, hard wire, etc - so to need a cord, along with having a phone out as a distraction, is just not integrated enough. They need to integrate all of this onto a detector, and not these workarounds.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings - I am glad there at least is something new coming out, as radar world is often slow with new developments - but at the same time, I think this product has no substance. And Escort's presentation of it is a bit cheesy on their web site with those youtube videos. I know "radar roy" may have his knowledge and experience, but he seems to be a part of Escort and not an independent and objective source to review their products.
Oh, btw - I do like the 9500ix. The gps filtering is great, and I am only disappointed in "live" because I wanted it to enhance the 9500ix's ability. As it stands now, it really lacks substance.
