    Default 8500 X50 Disappointed

I bought an 8500 X50 from someone on Craigslist for $50 (Good deal), after using it a few days something wasn't right.

Cops running Constant On would be picked up right before I saw them, radar detector pointing right at two cops running constant on standing outside of their car and it doesn't even give me an alert until I'm past them. Very poor range on streets I used to get 2 miles alert on my Whistler. Tried it in multiple cars to make sure something wasn't interfering or the windshield had something going on in it.

So I ring up Escort's online service today and they tell me nothing seems wrong since K band still detects Walmarts and Walgreens. Right now I'm sure a low line Cobra could defeat this X50 on Ka. If the tech support thinks it's fine, I'm not going to blow $60 to have it checked out and just have it returned the way it was.

So time to sell the Escort and go on to a trusty Whistler Pro 78/Pro 78se since I know those work well for me here.

"I bought an 8500 X50 from someone on Craigslist for $50"

Your disappointment is misplaced. It should occur to you that it was on Craigslist for 50 bucks because it isn't working properly. Did the seller give you a warranty? Please don't buy a Whistler off of Craigslist and then blame the company if it doesn't work right.

That means absolutely nothing. It wasn't from some punk kid in a riced out honda, it was from and old guy, still mint condition in it's case and original box with original receipt.

If I can get it for $50, I'm not going to pay $400 for it brand new. If you read my post I talked to Escort service and they believe nothing is wrong with it and it would be a waste to send it to them.

Sorry Ken,but you did take a chance on buying a used product "as is" from a private seller. You could have made out like a banshee but unfortunately you didn't. It isn't Escorts fault that it isn't working to your satisfaction nor is it still under warranty. K band is working since it does detect it but to have it checked out for a range issue, you have to send it in and pay for that. I bet that it feels crummy right now but again, blame the seller not the company.

Which part are you failing to read? I called Escort and they told me they wouldn't recommend sending it in because it didn't sound broken on Ka. This is Escort physically telling me to NOT send it in, because it's NOT broken. I don't know how much more clear I can be on that?

You wrote and I quote "So I ring up Escort's online service today and they tell me nothing seems wrong"
Then you changed it to "I talked to Escort service and they believe nothing is wrong with it and it would be a waste to send it to them"
Different words equals a different meaning. So,what you write and what you mean are two different things? Got it.

Example: I called Escort and they told me they wouldn't recommend sending it in because it didn't sound broken on Ka. This is Escort physically telling me to NOT send it in, because it's NOT broken. Different from the above sentences that you were told
    A. Old guy with receipt knows it doesn't work right and sold it.
    B. Old guy with receipt doesn't know that it isn't working properly and sold it since he doesn't use it.
C.You bought a detector and it doesn't work right.
    D. If Escort actually told you that it is NOT broken,do not send it in because its a waste of time....they shouldn't have.
    E. Letter C applies and you have to send it in for a diagnosis which costs money.
    F. I bet that you won't buy a Whistler off of an old lady with cancer on Craigslist with a receipt.

I have bought several radar detectors on EBay, always with the intention of sending it in for a tune up. No one over the phone can truly tell if it is working up to factory specs. Just call them and tell them you want to send it in for a tune up. You are still way ahead of the game with an initial 50 dollar investment, + 80 or so dollar tune up. This goes for you too Natedog, just send it in and it will be performing like new when you get it back.

Guys, c'mon. Take your $50 dud detector and turn it into a $80 trade in on the new X50 Black. That shouldn't be a struggle!

While the Escort does pick up K, it does not mean that there is nothing wrong with it. I had a detector that was sick but still picked up K. Personally, I would send it in for a tune up before deciding to selling it. However, if you like the Whistler, now is a good time to make the change.
