Default Looking to buy in the future

So i'm pretty much a newb when it comes to radar detectors. I've never owned one in my life. I have a 2004 mustang cobra which is not my daily driver. I drive city and street. What are the radar detector laws for washington state?

I just wanted to get your guys opinion on what you all think would be the best way to go for me. I've been eye balling the hell out of the Escort iq but am wondering if its even worth a crap? Does it have just as good of radar detection as the 9500 ix? Is there any additional fees that go with the iq?

I was also looking at the redline and 9500 ix. Would either one of these be a better way to go over the iq?

Lastly, i saw the escort live and was curious if this would be something to look into? I called them to see how much it will actually cost per month, and they said it will be free until 2012, but after that she did not know. I thought that was a load of crap.. so i'll just wait and see how much it actually costs.

WA state both r/l detectors and l jammers are legal.

redline vs 9500ix: do you need GPS? (speed cameras/red light cameras)

I don't think i NEED GPS. I don't recall seeing to many speed cameras and red light cameras around here. But do you think its worth it to have the GPS?

Being in a city, you may like the false alert lockout feature of the IX. Or buy the redline with escort Live to get rid of false alerts.

The Passport iQ is a terrific product if you need a navigation device. It's built-in detector is a 9500ix so it offers the same features and similar performance as a 9500ix. I use one in my daily driven car and love it. It looks like a GPS nav unit so it doesn't draw attention as a radar detector.

I have access to our Defender database locations. WA state has many red light and speed cameras.

The only additional fees for the iQ would be Defender database subscriptions (90 day free trial included with the iQ and 9500ix) and for map updates. New iQ's are pre-loaded with the latest maps.

I'm not really in a big city like Seattle. The city i live in is MUCH smaller. The car that will recieve the detector will mainly be going into the illegal speed limits on the free way. With that said, would the redline be the better way to go? I thought i read that it has a longer range then the others?

So how do the fees work for the defender database? What is the monthly fee?

9500ix is good for the city. Redline and live would be a great combo. Redline is great for the highway.

Defender subscriptions are only available from our EscortRadar.com website. They are priced as follows:
    1 year = $19.95
    3 year = $39.95

A Defender subscription is for updating Defender with the latest camera locations. Defender is updated weekly. Note that you will still receive Defender alerts after your subscription expires. You will just not be able to download updated Defender locations.

The 9500ix and iQ have excellent radar detection range. RedLine has extreme radar detection range. RedLine is still a basic radar detector though. RedLine doesn't have new features like GPS false alert elimination, GPS location alerts (cameras, speedtraps, etc), speed display, etc. I prefer the features like false alert elimination over extreme range.

As Vette6893 pointed out, if you have an iPhone3GS or better or an Android OS 2.2 or higher smartphone then our new Escort Live app will incorporate many of the GPS features with a connected RedLine. You can read more about Escort Live at our website. We are taking pre-orders for Escort Live now. The iPhone version will be shipping any day now while the Android version will be released later this month.

Seattle does have some intersections that have both red light cameras and speed cameras. These are impossible to know the difference unless you have a detector that tells you. If you go to Seattle very often, I recommend a GPS based detector. The Bel STi-R Plus is the best one, by far.
