I couldn't find one on their website, so I was wondering if there were any homebrew versions.
Also, is it worth getting?

It not out yet but soon...
Use a 6 pin RJ cord and a coupler. Works fine and you don't need to reach up to the windshield for the buttons since they are still by the lighter outlet.
Radio Shack. 25' cord works great.
Pics really aren't necessary but I have some at home that I sent to the BlendMount folks.
I bought some RJ12 ends on Amazon:
Amazon.com: RJ12 6P6C Crimp Plug for Flat Cable (50 Pcs Per Bag): Electronics
and a straight through coupler:
Amazon.com: RJ11 / RJ12, 6P6C, (Straight) Telephone Inline Coupler: Electronics
Then I crimped the ends on to a standard Cat5e cable that I had laying around according to the wiring guidelines found on wikipedia:
Modular connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I plugged in my new extended RG12 cord into my detector and the other end into the coupler. I plugged my smart cord into the other end of the coupler and everything powered up fine and seems to be working fine. I will have to hide the wire run tomorrow when I have more time. But right now it is working like a champ and not giving me any strange errors on the detector, smart cord, or the Iphone app. So I am happy My next step is to just wire the smart cord into a un-wired 12v socket (Like this Amazon.com: Roadpro 12V Battery Clip-On and Cigarette Lighter Adapter: Automotive but with the ends cut off) so I can hide the cord more and just have it switch on when I turn the key on.
Two local Radio Shacks didn't have the 6 pin cables. Looking online, one vendor has them listed as either "reverse" for voice, or "straight" for data. Is there a difference, i.e. which one should I get?
Thanks!
Can't speak for your RS - mine had them on the shelf as well as the coupler. I am going to guess you want the data cable (straight). I think the total cost was $17 since I had to buy a 25' cord even though I only needed like 8'. I didn't cut the cable up and just hid the extra cable and it works fine.
