1. how do I simply test if the shifters are operating ? Im looking for simple test just to see if the response at all (not looking for complicated laser test accuracy etc')
2. is there a way to turn the shifters on or off from control unit

1. To just test if they're working, you may be able to use a TV remote. Note that for me my remote works fine with my laser interceptor but I can't speak for the ZR4 shifters.
2. From a 9500ci you can't turn them off, but not sure if you have that option with an 8500ci.
