Default Redline with BS 2,5,8 did not pick up strong Ka signal.

I was using my V1 (Ka guard off) and RL with BS 2,5,8 and noticed my V1 Ka going off and my RL staying quite so I wanted to see why, so I quickly turned on 1 and 3 and left 2, 5 , and 8 on and the RL suddenly displayed 33.698 . The v1 was about half way on the meter and the RL was going off with good frequency. I never did see what was causing it but I must assume it wasn't false because of the length and strength of the signal.

    any ideas?

It is definitely a false alert, ~33.8 may have been a LEO, but ~33.7 is more likely a false from a cheep RD. I get ~33.** falses on occasion with my RedLine and I know the cops around me dont run 33.8 guns.

You just witnessed the advantages of segmenting, helps weed out those false alerts. It is wonderful!!

Welcome to the world of "HATE" for those cheap, leaky detectors.

You also witnessed why you do not run two RD together. You have no idea what they do, been discussed many times.

Its a RedLine and V1, really not an issue or why he got the false he did.

The false at that freq. was probably the very leaky cheap Cobra detector in another car spewing out all that spurious emissions.

The REDLINE & V1 do NOT play well together, you should never run them as a pair together at the same time.
    N-E-V-E-R !
They interfere w/ each other greatly & proven in many tests by many different independent testers.

Good explanation no why not to run 2 detectors together.

RedLine and V1 do play well together, and actually very well with the right placement and settings unlike most RD's (this is well documented). Sure there are emissions from any RD that can hinder performance greatly and its a rule of thumb not to run 2 RD's together, but with the RedLine and its unique antenna that reduces emissions and the V1 and the way it scans its a minimal issue, especially with segmented settings and filtering off.

On top of the V1 and RedLine playing well with each other normally the OP is using BS & RDR and Ka guard off on the V1 so there is no major filtering trying to suppress alerts from ether RD. You will just get a false blip from the V1 or slightly raised noise floor, but again what the OP mentioned had noting to do with interference with what hes running.

Ultimately its up to the individual to decide and see if running (RedLine/V1) is an issue. The incredible range of the V1/RedLine with segmenting sweeps, huge off axis advantage of the RedLine, arrows and rear antenna of the V1 most wont complain still having 2x the detection of most other RD out there.

I have been running a RedLine 9500CI and V1 combo for years now with full filtering and never had a alert so poor because of interference i didn't have time to slow down to avoid a ticket. And now with BS & RDR and custom sweeps i get consistency and a lot more range by all RD's even when run together.

Agreed, good detail and explanation of why there is interference even if its not noticeable. But with all major filtering off the bad/negative interference is virtually eliminated so this can be an option for those who want to run a RedLine and V1.

Could an out of tune gun been the problem?

Possible, but very improbable. Radar guns are regularly calibrated. This is one of the first things a lawyer will ask for in court when fighting a ticket, the gun's calibration record. The gun this would have to be centers at 33.800GHz. 33.6xx places it at over 100MHz outside of calibration which is beyond what the gun manufacturer recommends.

The OP saying that they never saw the LEO, and that neither never went to full alert, sounds like someone nearby had a leaky detector. They cause alerts at about 33.7GHz and below.

Whenever two detectors are being used together there is a potential for interference. Due to it's electronically stealth design, RedLine shouldnt effect other detectors but it will still be effected by others. Some, like CJRadar above, are aware of this, accept the possibility and have "tuned" their setup to minimize it.
