Definitely too early to tell, but my gut tells me it's not a dud, just that it's been over hyped with expectations of the fanboys raised too high.
But, then again, it may very well turn out to be a dud. After all, there are some serious problems highlighted on the early test videos.
So far I have used it next to a Passport iQ (which has a Passport 9500ix integrated into it) & the Max would start going crazy on Ka band, the iQ would be silent. Then about 10-15 seconds later the iQ would start alerting. I didn't have them next to each other either. I put the iQ on the windshield as normal & had someone else drive while I sat in the back holding the Max.
I have read on the official Escort Forums where people have opted for the latest V1 with it's Bluetooth module & are regretting not getting the Max instead.
A a lot of people think the Max is over hyped & it's abilities inflated. I assure you that is not the case. Yes, Escort promotes it like it's the greatest thing ever, but that's what all companies do when the offer a new product. The difference with Escort is, the product backs up the claims.
RIP Duncan my BELOVED black lab son 8/7/99-3/23/11. I will miss you DEARLY.
LET THE BIRTH OF MANY TESTING GROUPS HAPPEN!
You want to know what it is like doing something for the love and passion and not for the mighty dollar then look up GOL!
I am not sure this is accurate, but I have a strong suspicion that units with GPS location filtering & so forth, cannot be stealth. I don't know if it has to do with the frequencies being used that is the issue or what, but if you look none of the stealth windshield units have GPS at all.
Is there any particular thing you wanted to know about the real world use of the Max? I do actually have on in my hand, so I can pretty much answer anything you may want to know.
I also have an iP5 and iPad but wish it were possible to switch to devices that better fit my needs.
Listen, it's a good detector, but come on, don't act like it's something it isn't. Namely, and incredibly capable replacement for the 9500ix.
I had read that somewhere else too, but yes it was in part regarding your post.
I didn't take away from your post on the Escort forums that you were in anyway being negative about V1 at all. If you would like I will be more than happy to remove the post from here, just say the word.
I do not want anyone to ever feel singled out or anything. I believe that everyone's thoughts & opinions are just as valid as anyone else's & that's the whole purpose of a forum.
Thank you GPSnV1 for taking the time to respond.

Don't worry I'm not making it out to be something it isn't. Not everyone will agree & that's respected, don't like or believe it, don't buy it.
I have one, I've used it had the results I stated. Escort's engineers have demonstrated it & it's been independently tested. I don't have to make it out to be anything, other's already have.
