    Thumbs up 9500ix Question.

Would it be possible for local or state police to place a "speed meter" (A sign that tells you how fast you are going when you pass it) in a location for 2 or 3 weeks so that GPS radar detectors lock out that location? In my scenario the police would take away the "speed meter" and now use the location as a trap. Is this at all possible?

Sounds possible. The frequency would have to be the same.

It may be possible but not likely.
As stated above, both units would have to be operating at pretty much the exact same frequency and GPS coordinates.
In addition if they take away the speed sign for any length of time, autolearn will unlearn it.
If they leave the sign up and add a police radar unit, the ix should detect 2 signals and override the lockout (according to ESCORT).

Also, once the sign is removed if the 9500ix passes by and finds the source of the false is no longer there it will unlock the location.

Yes & I have seen it with my own eyes in the not so great state of SC.

Thanks for posting the question though, good topic!

How many times do you have to go by it before it unlocks?

Not sure. Larry, the Escort Rep over on the Escort board, answered this question awhile back and I forgot what he said. If I recall what he said, it seems that if the detector knows it is a lockout and doesn't see the false signal on the frequency locked out it will unlock it on the first pass. This is why some folks complain about door openers suddenly falsing again. What happens is the radar shifts and the 9500 doesn't pick up the frequency it locked out and unlocks it.

Hopefully, if anybody has had a different experience they'll chime in.

~3 times depending on speed and it will unlock.
