    Cool Passport/Live review.....

Greetings...I received my new Passport from Roy a month ago...I played with it a little before heading from Wisconsin to Florida and back...I had upgraded from my RX 65---I bought a few years back--and also on a few days--ran the Passport and RX 65--side by side.....First--Lets get the RX 65 put away..I loved the ol gal--She had saved my KEESTER many times-over the years..and honestly a few times..alerted me to "Pull over and get my license out"..LOL.. (Let me explain first--I am a LOW END speeder..maybe 10-15 over---and have not received a ticked in 20 years so....) ANYWAY---The RX-65 picked up---everything--literally!!! She falsed almost minutely...so..The ol gal works but..is also very slow on pick-up of live-real alerts...So..I have made a GREAT upgrade-to the Passport. (Thanks ROY)

Now..The Passport/Live combo....Well, I love it! Roy helped me pick what I truly needed..YES..we all wish we could afford the MAX II but..I had about 400 to spend so, I took the Passport and a can of Veil (which I will apply when its warmer)....The Passport/Live combo...for me..just works perfectly!! Much of my ride to Florida was Interstate..with some back roads thrown in. After reading the many reviews out there..and I STRESS THIS...on long--curves...IF you get even a very small alert--LOWER YOUR SPEED...Be aware...The Passport does not false hardly at all so, if She alerts you...TAKE ACTION. The next alert was almost right on top of me..and as I said..I am a low end user/speeder...What do I love about this? Well, it is why I am a detector user..It keeps me aware..and on my toes! On long straight aways..She gave me AMPLE time to back it down to eight over...and...Over the years--I have become a "NON RABBIT" driver...I no longer fly first--in front of the pack..Like I did years ago....So...Running with the AUTO/NO X BAND worked like a charm---Also of note: I have a Dodge Grand Caravan..and I did not have time to mount my velcro (the 3M tough Velcro)...On the dash--so on the way down..I used the windshield cups...down low..just above the wipers...It was hard for me to see so..I used the voice alerts more than visual...So, the detector would alert me..then thru my phone--the same alert...WHICH WAS VERY COOL! WHEN I made it to Florida..I used a lil Goo Be Gone..slowly applying it with a puddy knife..easily removing the old 3M sticky velcro--with NO damage...Cleaned and re-applied the new 3 M Velcro...and really pressured it down...I have my mount just above the radio-centered..on the top dash--with the aim straight-and about 3 inches above my wipers.....On the way home...a much better view of it...and I think-a clearer view for my antenna to pick up SMOKY!

LIVE: Guys and Gals--I LOVED THIS!!!!! Yes..I have heard about WAZE and all but--this was really cool and honestly..helped break up the BORING drive, too! I marked about 40 "Police Spotted"...and my detector marked about 35 "Active KA Alerts"-on its own..and a few Active K Alerts...I found in Florida....KA was the MAJOR USE signal...Followed by very few K alerts..But that K is out there...be careful...and a LOAD of K "Lockouts"..Mostly at Malls and strip malls....Some alerts of construction...Speed showers...etc.....Live and the Passport as a combo---worked PERFECTLY for me...Again..I am an AVERAGE detector user...Not a HIGH END guy....A REAL SHOCK for ol MartyTheMortician was...when I was traveling South from Savanna, GA, to Daytona...and approached Jacksonville...OH MY GOD!!! I counted no less than 70 "Red Light" camera's marked..while traveling down 95--in the downtown Jacksonville area!! WOW!!! There were a few in Daytona..and I got to mark 2..that seemed "Portable"..Lights on a rollable trailer....So, that was cool...Maybe I marked it..just as it was moved!!! I did make a few alert mistakes...Police Spotted...etc...As I hit the wrong button..but got better-as I went along! OF NOTE: On 25 East--from Interstate 75-to Middlesboro, KY...BE VERY CAREFUL..I marked to SPEED CAMERA's that were not already marked--and they alerted VERY SLOW on my detector..and also looked "Portable"..SO I am guessing--they MOVE them often..and yes..there was a sign warning of "Speed Camera's...so, just be aware.

SUGGESTIONS TO ESCORT: Give us the ability to be more specific with our LIVE alerts...IE: "Police spotted moving South" And "Speed Trap"...Does this mean.."Police using Radar" or a true "Police 5 car Trap"..But--its all good...And with my vision a lil less, as I am 53 now..THIS combo for me...JUST WORKS!!! Now..Roy shows the MAX II will give you more alert distance...so yes..I DO dream..I would have gotten the MAX II-Lol...But such is life--WE DREAM! But for me.. A simple a lil over speeder..THIS COMBO WORKS!! OH--LIDAR--I did get 4 alerts on the trip....3 were scatter from the car in front of me...and..One at a Weigh Station...in GA....The Toll system around Chicago also clinked twice but-I am use to this..especially on SUNNY days....ANYWAY--all in all, again..this combo for "Marty-the average Joe-Mortician"..This works!! I am not retiring the old RX 65..I am giving to my Son...who is a NON RABBIT DRIVER..with the warning: Its SLOW detecting...Be very careful...ALSO..it was VERY cold most of my trip-even in Florida..Not a lot of officers..standing outside cars..Lasering the lanes..90% driving with their Radar-on..Dash wise...

Roy..Thanks to you-MY BROTHER!!! As in this experience of buying...now, my third detector from you..you NAILED IT...ESCORT/BELTRONICS...Keep up the great work!! My friend Mark is/was a VALENTINE loyalist (His was recently stolen..Folks...put these baby's away--when you park!!!)...I shall enjoy telling him..how well, this combo works!!-and JAG HIM OFF ABOUT IT!! He can be a SMART ARSE TOO!!

ONE LAST NOTE HERE: Listen...WHEN you get an alert...react! On a few curves--I did get an 5-8 second NOTICE and then WHAM!! -Police was on me/coming my way-rolling... so..Just be cautious...NEVER ignore an alert...With my RX..It alerted A LOT--almost NUMBING me to ALERTS..When these newer detectors alert--Damn good chance..SMOKY is ABOUT!!!

One more: In N Florida...Behind a HUGE set of tree cover..I got a MILE ahead of-- K alert..and when I hit the vision of HIM..sitting in the tree's..WHAMMO--Instant on so again, if you get an alert..REACT!

    Be well,
    Marty

Thanks for that excellent review. It mirrors my experience with the same unit, although I'm still waiting for my Veil to be available...apparently some challenges being addressed with the roll out...probably overwhelmed by orders, which I hope is the case for VG's sake.

I had to chuckle at your "(His was recently stolen..Folks...put these baby's away--when you park!!!)" comment considering I had just posted in the general folder about getting burgled last week, not losing my Passport, but losing an even more expensive Zumo GPS. Yeah, NOW you tell me!

I haven't had the opportunity to give the Passport a highway test yet, it's all been city (Greater Orlando area) and a little country (Lake County) driving so far, but even so I've found the Passport does a great job in either blocking falses or reacting in such a fashion that you KNOW it's a false...and then SHUTTING THE HECK UP (or at least going to a whispered, unobtrusive reminder)! My buddy has an antiquated Whistler that not only frequently falses but INSISTS on CONTINUALLY SCREAMING AT YOU about that false unless you unplug it and toss it out the window. Which is very tempting when sitting at a red light by a shopping center. Jeez, just SHUT UP ALREADY, WOULDJA?

    Now about Live! versus Waze...

I've tried Waze, really like that it is actually a working GPS, like that it orients the screen properly for using that GPS, but...I always end up going back to Live! because of the compatibility with the Passport. Yes, you can get Waze to talk to you, but...it's just not as effective as seeing the alerts on the phone AND seeing what's happening on the RD in conjunction with that.

So yeah, another "Me too what he said." on that.

Again, thanks for the review and ride safe,

    CR

Pointer..Posted here first--then there...with the unwelcomed responses..Maybe should have just kept it here..I was simply posting a nice trip--with new equipment I now have. I dropped dead in 13'...and luckily made it back....This was my first long trip--out, in 2 years-so I was excited.....I guess..by thanking ROY--for his help in getting what fit me..upset you-and many others. Kinda sad-if you ask me. Calling me "Marty"--"Er--Roy"....pointed out that maybe I should have NOT thanked him/that ROY is not welcomed around here ...but, you did not have to be an ass-about it. IF you are a Moderator--you should have pulled me aside..but no---you chose to be an ass about it, publically...and honestly..the PM's I have now received about you-are not very flattering . SO THANKS--for the nice welcome over at RDF---for your professional guidance...I would hazard to guess...you would have sent me to Radio Shack....So, that is why I copied and pasted to the RDF...OK? Was this/...OK with you?? Sharing an actual review---of a Radar Detector product??? Was it OK?? Marty- Actual name....

Don't sweat it! I am all too familiar with excessive negativity. You are certainly welcomed here.

Don't bother yourself with the Roy negativity. I don't let other people choose my friends or associates for me, and judging by your posts, you are of like mind.

Whoa fellers! Please...a little decorum...yer scarin' the horses.

I understand unbridled enthusiasm. Heck, I am the POSTER CHILD for unbridled enthusiasm. It shouldn't be greeted with a rolled up newspaper.

And yes, I'm talkin' to BOTH of you!

    'Nuff said.

Now...about that Escort Passport review...didn't someone on here recently hint at a full-tilt-boogie one that might be coming? Not wanting to mention any names mind you, but it rhymes with Trail Fly.

Woah Nelly! Yeah I need to pen one. It's on my (long) list of things to do. The G5 rollout is consuming just about all of my time at the moment. The pending reviews are going to have to wait. I'm planning a trip to FL mid March. I'll drive it and use that as an opportunity to knock some of these reviews out including one on a Max2.

    WHAT? The Max 2?? AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!

It's the Escort Passport no-numbers-attached, no Max nothin', the plain ol' Escort Passport that we're talkin' here.

Even the turorials on set up to be found aren't actually what you do with the Passport, the doggone task bar on the Escort Live! is different on the Passport, we're stumbling around blind here and...we're gonna get ANOTHER review of the Max 2?

I'm gonna cry...it's just too much I tells ya, too much...*sob*...I feel so...alone...so abandoned...and a little hungry. Yeah, I think I could go for a lil' snack...

    But I digress.

    PASSPORT! JUST PLAIN OL' PASSPORT!
