I travel to Virginia often, but radar detectors are illegal there.. so I'm thinking about putting it on the top of the window on the driver side on the blue tint so its less obvious. Does the tint affect the performance of the RD?

it can affect the range..especially laser. it depends on the tint..is it metalic finished?..etc. but if i were you..id mount below the tint if you can.
like xihua said, the tint CAN effect range but not as much for radar as for laser. i have my V1 mounted behind the tint and i still get 2 miles on K band. If at all possible, mount below that, but if you cant, dont stress too much, you will still get very good range with any top 3 detector.
