    Default Concealed my x50!

Hey everyone, just an update for the x50 fans wondering how to conceal their detector, I had an idea and it works pretty darn well. As ghetto as what it is, you can not see it if I got pulled over. Mounting it high was not an option, because the x50 is so darn long that it is hard to read the display because it is almost over your head.

Where and how did I conceal it? The bottom left of my windshield, with hockey tape. The suction cups I put black sharpy marker on the ouside of them, so it wouldnt effect suction and you can not notice them.

This picture did not turn out so well because I got some glare, but if you look closly to the bottom left you can BARELY notice it. (this is the cops view)

    From my view...

    From the cops view...

Yes it is ghetto, but the fact is it works! The only problem I see with this is that the detector may have heating issues on those hot summer days, but I plan on taking it down.

And you have the side effect that if any would-be thief sees it, it looks like it's a taped-together POS, and probably won't bother. Cool pics though. When you take the tape off, will it leave sticky crud? Might be bad for reselling it if so.

Just curious, but in the event that one does get pulled over... how good of an idea is it to try and take the RD down and put it in the glove compartment or other out of sight area before the cop gets to you? I imagine it would be easier with it mounted on the driver's side as opposed to in the middle -- then the cop isn't as likely to see you reaching for it. Thoughts from people who have had to do this?

Very bad idea. The cop wont know if your hiding a radar detecot or a gun.

If the cop is coming at you, and you know you are cought speeding, I would take it down while the cop is pulling his u turn and put it under you're seat. If you are cought from behind it is to late, dont move and keep your hands where the officer can see them. Def dont start moving around a lot and try hiding things

    will it leave sticky crud
I actually taped both sides of the main shape of tape and left the corners sticky. So it is more of a cover, the only sticky part touching the detector is on the sides.

It's a great idea if they are illegal where you are!

I like either the left, on dash, middle on dash, or above rearview mirror. That's basically all your options...

can mounting it there affect the performance? everyone always says mount high or low close to dash..... just wondering if mounting it there in the corner impacts on the performance?

Sethy, I think it looks crappy and unimaginative. You have to be able to do better than that??

One more vote in the "it sucks column"
You just want to be able to look at all those flashy lights.
Sethy, keep your eyes on the road!
Escort needs to move all the display information to the concealed display like the V1 does.
Get the optional visor clip & direct wire kit. (it might cover some controls but who cares)
Then get one of those ice pic looking 12V test lights and find the ignition accessory at the fuse box so it goes on with the engine then off with the engine, that's the answer!
